Two large stashes of bronze weapons and jewellery dating back 2,700 years have been found in Romania.
Transylvania might be well known for its connection to the iconic Bram Stoker novel Dracula, but outside of vampire lore this historical region of Romania is also home to some intriguing archaeological finds dating back thousands of years.

Among the most recent of these are two stashes of weapons and jewellery that contain more than 350 items between them and date back to somewhere around the 8th century BC.

This remarkable treasure trove includes axes, short swords, spears, brooches, bracelets, pendants, beads and hairpins as well as pieces of harnesses that would have been used on horses.
"The majority of the objects are made of bronze, yet there are also weapons and tools made of iron," said Corina Bors of the National History Museum of Romania.

It isn't clear why the people of the time had buried all these items where they did however it is possible that it was intended as either a gift to the gods or as an offering to a local chieftain.

A careful examination of each of the items is now underway in an effort to determine where they might have originated with excavations at the site expected to continue well in to next year.

Why does my mind always go to these places... I was totally thinking about the wrong kind of booty. Talk about the ultimate "Cougar"!Maybe the weapons were buried as a cache for a later battle. Sucker the enemy in and dig up the weapons........

Fine so now take care of your Roma, by at least supplying gas, water and electricity! This is not true, roma (gypsies) are very rich in romania, they build huge houses with all the comfort they want , they have a lot of money and they are organized in a mobster criminal network committing a lot of infractionality within Romanian's and europe's borders. Largely they are not interested in going to school or education and or finding jobs but just becoming rich quick by all means.

They are going to accidentally dig up some vampires and then we will all pay.

My father is buried on a mountain slope in Transylvania with the exact same iron cross as in the picture.. Completely freaked me out when I saw it. Also, missjatti, that is highly offensive what you wrote. Gypsies are a nomadic people that came originally from the east, they are not Romanian. Romanians don't maim their children & use them as begging trophies like gypsies do, Romanians don't try to shaft you for every penny like gypsies do. They are a different people who teach their children nothing but wrong. They are essentially garbage as far a culture goes.
