This story was submitted to the site by Ann from Cedar City, Utah.
The following incident occurred in 1993. I was temporarily living with my brother and his wife. The property was located seven miles outside Cedar City, Utah on about five acres in a somewhat isolated area where residents had horses and other farm animals. The house had a long wooden porch running across the front with steps leading to the main entrance and steps on both sides. At the bottom of the side steps were double-hung bow windows. My day bed was situated right at the bow window.
I awoke in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. I was in a complete state of awareness. I heard three distinct knocks, for what I believed was on the front door. I remained very still listening for any additional sounds. It was dead silent. I became very fearful. I wanted to look out the window which would have given me a clear view of the entire porch area, but I was paralyzed with fear. My logical mind was thinking, maybe someone needs help, that's why the knocking, but I couldn't move a muscle.
I eventually fell back to sleep. I said nothing about the incident the following day. On the second day my brother said, "I heard knocking on the front door a couple of nights ago". I told him I also heard the knocks. Aside from a few comments back and forth we never discussed the subject again.
I think what made this experience so memorable was the fear factor associated with it. There were no deaths in the family and no misfortunes befell us. Three knocks in the night. Respectfully submitted, AHP, Bridgeport, Connecticut
