Loud crash in the night

It was the summer of 1969. I was 13-going-on-14, and my aunt, uncle, and a couple of cousins were staying with my parents and me for a week or so. After a fun day of swimming in the pool and other stuff, we all went to bed. I don't even remember where they all slept in our tiny 3-bedroom house, but I know that neither cousin shared my little bitty bedroom with me. They must have all been crammed into our guest room.

Now, I know I wasn't asleep when this incident happened, because I was too wound up to go to sleep and we hadn't been in bed that long. I suddenly heard a loud crash in my bedroom closet; it sounded like something made out of metal fell on the floor. The first thing that came to mind was a vacuum cleaner hose (they were made of metal in those days), but there wasn't any vacuum cleaner in my closet. Now a braver kid would have gotten up, turned the light on, and investigated, but no, not cowardly old me! I lay there shaking wondering what the heck had happened and waiting for someone to come in and ask what happened...but no one did. Since we lived in a one-story 3-bedroom house and all the bedrooms were right near each other, there is no way you could not hear such a loud crash, no matter where you were in that house!

The next morning when it was light out, I was braver and got up and looked in my closet...not a thing out of place! I asked everyone if they had heard a loud noise during the night, but nobody had. Either they had all fallen asleep right away and were sleeping VERY deeply, or I was the only one who had heard it.

This has always mystified me, and to this day I haven't come up with an explanation for it aside from it must have been something other-worldly. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

It sounds like a common occurrence, sorry.. namely that you just nodded off and dreamt the noise. Apart from that, when you are lying down and preparing for sleep, your systems will be slowing down and to accurately say that it was in your closet may not reflect reality, it could have been somewhere else in the house. I've certainly had a few occasions where there has been a loud noise that I have got up to investigate, found nothing, but when thinking back / checking the time versus what I thought it was, etc, I realised that I had in fact fallen asleep and the sound was in my dreams. Some... [More]

We were lying in our bed watching doctor who when she suddenly sat up straight and asked me what that was.. What was what? I asked. That high sound itsounded like something fell in the living room..As if one of the guitars fell down from the wall. Well I didnt hear anything and I was lying beside her. Awake(edit) This have happened many times with her because she allways begin to fall asleep in the middle of films/series

The most remarkable thing here is anyone would remember a loud noise heard in a house, onenight in1969, which is an eternity ago.
