This story was submitted to the site by Howard from Phoenix AZ.
About 2 months after my best friend Craig died, something woke me from a deep sleep. I turned over and saw Craig standing there in my room, right next to my drum set.

Completely startled, I blurted out "what the **** are you doing here?" He looked at me with a very peaceful, calm look and said "I just wanted to let you know that I'm okay, and I love you."

I replied "yeah, you're okay?" And he reassured me that he was.

I told him "I love you too" and my girlfriend, who was sleeping beside me stirred and then asked me "who are you talking to?" When I answered "Craig is here," she kind of freaked out and told me to stop messing with her! When I looked back over to where I had seen him, he was gone.

I had a bit of doubt whether or not I really saw him, or if I was just dreaming.

Either way, it was very comforting. Months later, I was visiting with Craig's Mom, and I told her my story. She told me a story of her own. One night Samantha, Craig's 3 year old niece, came into the darkened living room where Craig's Mom was sitting in the dark, quietly mourning her son. "Grandma, what are you doing?" She asked
"Nothing honey, just go back to bed" was her reply.

"Well, Uncle Craig told me to come out and tell you to stop crying, and go back to bed!"

"What?" she responded. Samantha repeated the same words, in a more demanding tone- " Uncle Craig said to stop crying, and to go back to bed!"

"Where is Uncle Craig?" She asked Samantha.

Samantha replied "He's in my room. He comes to talk to me. And he wants you to stop crying!"

Well, when I heard that Craig was visiting his niece around the same time as I saw him, I felt that I did indeed see my dead friend. And I'm so grateful.

I'm really sorry for your loss. You reminded me of a few years back, when i was sleeping one night. My mom had passed away 2 weeks prior. I was asleep and was dreaming of her then all of a sudden i woke up in the dead of night. I didn't see anything but i felt a strong presence beside my bed that i have never have experienced before.I wasn't scared or anything. I somehow knew right away that it was my mother looking after me. I sometimes still think about it after all these years...

Sounds like your friend is attempting to send you a message. Did you stop playing your drums?

Dream states can be extremely vivid because the brain is capable of creating is own consciousness within the dream state. That our emotions tend to heightened led Freud to speculate that dreams allowed us to fulfill our wishes. Dream memory, however, is short so we typically awaken near to the dream state to remember it. There is much we do not understand about dreaming. But, when we are unable to change our situation, we can change how we think about the situation, that is, we can change our belief and attitude. Dreams may help to foster these changes and keep us resilient.

One of my best friends since childhood died a couple of years ago. I still think I see him occasionally. Not sure if it is just my brain refusing to believe he is gone.

Hi Gary..the reason you feel like your seeing him is because...you ARE  seeing him. He wants you to see him. It takes a lot of energy for spirits to show themselves. When they do..please don't second guess what you saw. It's NOT  your imagination. Say hi to him. He can hear you.
