Globster
Term used in reference to an unidentified organic mass or corpse that has been washed up on a beach or shoreline. Globsters tend to be difficult to identify usually due to being in a decomposed state or because the body has been broken apart or tossed around in the currents to the point where it can be barely recognised.
Sea monsters
Globsters have been a source or mystery and intrigue for centuries. Some globsters either resemble or are believed to be the remains of sea monsters such as prehistoric aquatic dinosaurs or giant octopus and would have helped fuel legends of such beasts amongst sailors. In recent years globsters have sparked a lot of media interest with them being billed as 'monsters' and 'mystery creatures' on news networks and on the internet. Most of the time however they turn out to be whale carcasses, lumps of undersea plant-based organic material or other mundane things.
