A character from Greek Mythology, Daedalus was the architect who designed the Labyrinth in which resided the minotaur, a ghastly creature which was half-man, half-bull. When Theseus escaped the Labyrinth and killed the monster the King of Crete, Minos, had Daedelus and his son Icarus exiled for assisting him. According to the myth Daedelus made them a pair of wax wings each with which to escape but Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings melted, leaving him to plummet to his death.
