We have yet to find conclusive evidence for life elsewhere in the universe but many believe that it is inevitable. In the vastness of the cosmos and out of billions of galaxies it seems unlikely that life on Earth was a fluke.
Seeking out life
Recently astronomers have succeeded in locating and observing planets orbiting nearby stars and in the near future we will be able to determine the atmospheric composition of these planets to see if the conditions could be right for life. It is also possible life forms once existed on Mars when the conditions there were similar to those on Earth and under the ice of Jupiter's moon Europa where there is believed to be an ocean of liquid water. If life is found to have developed independently on two seperate bodies within the same solar system then the odds are that the universe is teeming with it.
