An American pilot who is credited with reporting the first modern sighting of Flying Objects over the Cascade Mountains on June 24th, 1947. He reported witnessing a series of metallic objects flying in formation and described them as moving 'like a saucer would if you skipped it across the water', a line from which a journalist would coin the term 'flying saucer'.
Later in his book 'The Coming of the Saucers' Arnold explained that the objects he had seen were actually Boomerang shaped and although they 'skipped like a saucer' they weren't actually saucer shaped.
The United States Air Force officially attributes the Kenneth Arnold case to a 'mirage' however many UFOlogists believe his case to be genuinely unexplained.
