Vampires and sickness

Anthony North: Vampires can be seen to have many possible explanations other than the obvious reality of the undead. In this essay I want to look at one of these areas in particular -the idea that various forms of sickness can fuel vampire mythology.

The supernatural idea of the vampire has been heightened, over the centuries, by a large number of seemingly inexplicable anecdotes. Typical was the fate that befell Meduegya, a town in Serbia, in 1732.

Awsome read 'S-man'! :tu:

OMG to be buried alive, tis horrible!

It seems way back when that times must have been very rough to be vigilant in placeing the sick 6ft under.

Its a shame they had to disturb the buy then dead.

Is it possable the families of some may have some what embalmed their loved ones and some could not affore to?

If their was a ""Vampire stalking about"" you'd think that In the extreme, the government should have been looking for it as proof.

Comments: {Q,It is a fact that once upon a time, before modern embalming techniques were in widespread use, people were found on rare occasions to have been buried alive. It's most likely, however, that 18th and 19th century horror stories involving premature burial were inspired by the medical discovery that victims of suffocation and drowning could be resuscitated — that, though they appeared dead, they really weren't. To say the least, this was a frightening realization for many people.

In any case, so strong was the fear of "precipitate interment" during the 19th century that some of the wealthier folk were known to stipulate in their wills that their coffins be outfitted with signaling devices ... just in case.Q}

I didnt know but there have been three movies made, "Buried Alive" 1990, 1997, 2007!

I agree, being burried alive is horrible :( And i thought vampires were immortal? And indistructible? If you really like reading about vampires, read the twilight series by stephanie mayer, it's an amazing series. It's also a movie now, too, but the books are much better!!!
