A leading scientist has warned a new species of "humanzee," created from breeding apes with humans, could become a reality unless the government acts to stop scientists experimenting. In an interview with The Scotsman, Dr Calum MacKellar, director of research at the Scottish Council on Human Bioethics, warned the controversial draft Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill did not prevent human sperm being inseminated into animals.

Didn't that bill mention that the eggs couldn't fully grow up anyways and that the research and use would be in the very first stages anyways?

Pretty sure that one of the threads here talked about the Soviets trying to develop apemen soldiers. That's what comes to mind first for me here.

I hope the day never comes when I have to see what a "humanzee" looks like. :(

That is just soooooo messed up.

It's kind of pathetic how nothing can get done these days.

In the 19th and to an extent, 20th century. Science was not limited by 'animal right groups' or ethical issues, Science was able to do as it pleased and even though methods could be considered cruel, the job was always done and knowledge obtained. What is wrong with experimenting?

Let's just say that this 'Apeman' did grow up and suffered some discomfort. So what? Our knowledge on the subject of human development will have increased dramatically. Isn't that worth the life of one petty creature?

I know I'd give my life if it advanced knowledge in a certain field dramatically. For the greater good.

I don't care about whether or not the creature would suffer any discomfort - it's the simple fact that I find it very disturbing we would want to breed a human with a chimpanzee, or any other animal for that matter.

I guess it's considered old fashioned now-a-days to think doing experiments like this is wrong. It's very disturbing to me...Talk about the stuff nightmares are made from, geez... :hmm:

JMO, but I don't even believe in hybriding animals, so this to me is a little mind boggling...I would feel like I was living on "Planet of the Apes".... :)

Be carefull what you breath life into, it will want its life also. so what does that mean if we were created. Cool to do experiments on us? lol

Maybe an Amry of Humazees could replace illegal immigrants working cleaning toilets and picking fruit.

On the other hand, this could create too many new Republican voters, so I guess I'm not for it.

This world is so stupid,

Everybody looks at the extreme solution when they should be looking at the source of the problem.

Why do people need all these organs?

Where do all viruses and illnesses come from?

Who is encourgaing population explosion?

The government is poinsoning people with flu shots, chemtrails, flouride, GM food, etc..

People really need to start looking after themselves,

instead of expecting other species to pick up the slack of mass human ignorance.

Listen to Dr Deagle People!

If you will check the officials put into office by illegals illegally voting in elections in California, I do believe you will find that they are all Democrats.

If that is your only worry, I would not worry about it.

I would worry more about the Planet of The Apes scenario. An intelligent species would find it intolerable to know that a more intelligent species existed among them and that no matter what they do or achieve, the more evolved species can and did do it faster and better. Their self esteem would hinge in most of their minds upon wiping out the superior species, forming a morally acceptable framework to commit the insane by embracing the belief that the superior species is inherently evil and they are forced into it.

I suspect it takes a relatively super evolved species to accept and embrace the presence of a far more evolved one than themselves.

Planet of the apes scenario....... That will never happen unless we mass produce them. And first they will study one individual subject and by that will know it's potental and what else it is capable of doing. And it is chimpanzees not apes they are 4 foot what can they possibly do their intelligence will never match ours plus no one will send them to school. They would be mindless drones. Nothin more.

There's no such thing as a more evolved species, and there's really no telling how intelligent or physically capable a humanzee would be.

I recall seeing this reported in 2005 about mixing the human with chimpanzee genes.

I wish I had the link to that news blurb. Likely this experiment has already been done.

I believe I saw something about this on "MonsterQuest" on the History Channel.

Stalin was "supposedly" testing this to make an army of them. They even had a woman who was willing to give birth to one.

I think it wasn't true, but still weird.

When is experimentation wrong? I'm against all experiments that may cause extreme pain, suffering or grief for anyone or anything, of course excluding some cases. I really hate animal testing that is harmful to the animal. Either do tests on willing humans, or people on death row.

Ok, this is too funny.... are you sure the hybrids would be short? and really, the muscle strength and development of a chimp is significantly greater than a human, so if they had chimp characteristics they would be more physically dangerous than your average human.

And you think it's school that increases humanity's intelligence? I rather think that a traditional schooling limits intelligence more than helping it.

It would simply be another chance for us to show how much we despise life...

Why is it wrong? Provided the humanzee isn't mistreated, where's the harm?

It'd be an ethical dilemma. Creating such a hybrid would require us to redefine what it means to be human. People would come to recognize that "humanzees" not only share our DNA, but share like-minds, emotions, physical attributes, and mannerisms. It would cause a lot of friction, considering these beings would be created for the soul purpose of harvesting organs. There would be no excuses to allow cruel treatment. I think it'd all be an absolute mess.
