Darwin theory to help find alien life

Darwin's theory of evolution could prove vital in the search for alien life. NASA astrobiologists are using evolution as a basis in the search for planets on which the conditions could be suitable for the development of life.

Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution may give pointers in the search for alien life, says a Nasa astrobiologist. In a talk marking the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species, a Nasa scientist said that Darwinian evolution will be the driving force of life anywhere in the universe, and we should use its predictions to decide where to look.

Well...if life does pattern itself solely on organic chemistry...then maybe the rules of evolution would apply...but I would need to hear the entire speech first. It seems an awfully absolute thing to say.
