A 92-year-old was refused a bottle of whisky because she couldn't produce proof that she was over 18.
Despite showing her over-60s bus pass, an OAP card and a pacemaker certificate Diane Taylor was still refused sale of the drink at a local store in Essex because she didn't have a driving license or passport. "I don't see how anyone could look at me and think I needed to prove my age," she said. A spokesman for the store maintained that the policy was necessary for legal reasons.
A great-grandmother blasted shop staff today after they refused to sell her alcohol at the age of 92, because she had no ID to prove she was over 18.

Damn grandma why are you throwing a fit? Yes, you still look as old as dirt, but obviously the store requires everyone to present their ID. Roll your hover round across the street. The guy over there will sell to an infant.

What's wrong with asking for ID that shows age for the sale of an age restricted item. It's very very possible that the employee was told repeatedly that no id = no sale, and that if they were caught breaking that rule they would be dismissed. I certainly wouldn't risk my job in this climate just because she's 92. Sorry love, rules is rules and sometimes you just gotta play by them. Foolish but understandable.

It's obviously stupid. The woman had proof that she was a pensioner. She looks older than dirt. It's not her fault if the store had a recent crack down for selling to under age kids. There is no reason that this woman should not have been sold to. I used to work in retail and had scores of people I had to ID ages ago. If you look under a certain age, yeah no problem, she is obviously older than 40, 50 or even 60 for crying out loud. If it wasn't an issue, there wouldn't have been an article. Young people these days are lacking in common sense. You don't refuse to sell to someone who has an ove... [More]
