Cover-ups and foul play have been suggested as Russia's Phobos-Grunt probe crashes back to Earth.

Conflicting media reports about the crash site and claims that the probe was launched before it was ready due to a limited launch window have created a degree of controversy with regard to what exactly happened to Russia's latest space endeavour.

"Russia's Phobos-Grunt space probe suffered a debilitating malfunction shortly after its November 2011 launch, which stranded it in low-Earth orbit for more than two months before it succumbed to gravitational forces and plummeted through the atmosphere on January 15."

Some of these questions might be answered when Phobos-Grunt crashes. What are the conspiracy theories? Sabotage against the Russian maybe. Is there a theory the Russians where using this as a cover for something else? Just looks like another blow to the Russian space effort to me.

Yes, it appears to be just another error and malfunction in the space effort.

Ever since the "monolith" anomaly was photographed on the surface of Phobos, nothing seems to go right. This is what gives these conspiracy theories their legs. We've all seen the images. Even Buzz Aldrin wants to know what it is....but all we get from NASA and anyone else "in the know" is silence....and it's frustrating.
