New research has suggested that an alien race should have been in touch by now, mathematically speaking.
The study goes on to suggest that we are actually being deliberately avoided by the interstellar community. "We're either alone, or they're out there and leave us alone," said mathematician Thomas Hair. The research is based on the notion that if an advanced alien civilization had developed within our galaxy then enough time has passed since the galaxy's formation to have facilitated travel to Earth from even the most distant stars. The study however did not take in to account the possibility of intelligent life outside of the Milky Way.
If humans living on a planet that is roughly 5 billion years old have technology like Kepler, an alien civilization with another 10 million years of experience under its belt would have advanced much further, Hair maintains.
