Rare ‘white’ black bear captured on camera

A rare white North American black bear was spotted recently in British Columbia, its only known habitat.

From a distance the white North American black bear could be easily mistaken for a polar bear, but with a population numbering fewer than 200 the 'spirit bear' is in fact an extremely rare variant. Nature photographers from around the world often visit British Columbia to hunt down this elusive creature and capture some spectacular pictures.

"With its bright white coat and enormous features, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this is a polar bear which has somehow found itself in a forest."

Cool! That's really amazing. What a pleasure it must have been to see that. I decided to do some research on the white bear in Native American mythology because it made me think of other white animals in their belief system. I discovered that the "white" black bear is also called the Spirit Bear and according to one story, the spirit bear was made white by the Creator of the Universe to remind its people of the past period of time known as the Ice Age. Gorgeous Bear !!! nature is amazing and it is wonderful to see animals living in nature and not messed with by humans.

How rare is this variant of black bear? wow, just 200. That's sweet, that this guy was able to get pics. The pictures are of amazing clarity.

ow rare is this variant of black bear? wow, just 200. That's sweet, that this guy was able to get pics. its actually closer to 500-700 (about 1/10th of the black bear pop in this region have these genes) from what i have read. but eitherway, neat pic
