The internet has been inundated recently with tales of brooms that stand upright by themselves.

Videos and pictures have appeared online showing regular household brooms standing perfectly upright without any apparent means of support. The "standing broom" phenomenon has been attributed to everything from paranormal activity to solar flares. Scientists believe that the unusual balancing act is a result of a build-up of static electricity, but not one from a solar flare. "In order for that level of static electricity to be created by a solar flare, we would have a heck of a lot of problem," said physics professor George Lolos. "For that to have come from a solar flare, it would have fried every satellite in the plane."

"When one Regina manís broomstick stood straight up by the bristles for 45 minutes without any support this week, he felt there must be some advanced force at work."

No problem bro! I just had found it pretty peculiar that you would take it somehow seriously. I was jokingly talking about his fridge morphing into a broom that would then stand on it's own balancing like that. But that's me. I love beein sarcastic someitmes in a very serious way to tease poeple a bit.

hahaha Bane Silvermoon...my first job when I was a teen was in a hardware store; I used to get the managers mad at me 'cause I'd leave the brooms standing like that at the end of the day...good laugh

Can we start judging the general intelligence of cities based on the believability of their paranormal reports? If so Culver City gets an F.

Ha!! HA!!! I reckon around 56 people will get that lol. When the brooms start moving and sweeping themselves and the dust pans pick up the dust and take it to the bin themselves then I will be intrested. Til then its fun to watch my brother try to balance one while my mum says "you need to clean the floor around it first" lol

The article said 'physicists believe it is the work of static electricity'... If so, why are'nt the sleeves of the sweater standing up in the photo? A sweater will be subject to static effects A LOT sooner than a broom or a paintbrush will...
