Over the next two days programmers from around the world will try to solve problems put forth by NASA.
The aim of the event is to bring together coders from seven continents in an effort to advance space exploration and education. NASA officials have set out a number of problems to be solved including everything from determining good landing sites on the Moon to investigating how the morale of astronauts could be improved by having them bake bread in space.
US space agency Nasa has launched a competition to find "space apps" to aid space exploration and education. The two-day event will bring programmers together on seven continents to see how creative they can be with Nasa's store of space data.
