Papyrus makes reference to Jesus' wife

A message inked on an ancient scrap of papyrus seems to suggest that Jesus may have been married.
The controversial discovery was made public yesterday by historian Karen L King at an international meeting of Coptic scholars. The scrap of papyrus is thought to have been written in the 4th century and is no bigger than a business card. In faded letters the text includes the words "Jesus said to them, 'My wife.." and further on it reads "she will be able to be my disciple."

The owner of the parchment has asked to remain anonymous, however experts who have studied it have so far concluded that it is unlikely to be a forgery. If it turns out to be genuine then it could reignite the debate over whether Jesus was married and, as long rumored, whether his wife could have been Mary Magdalene.
The discussion is particularly animated in the Roman Catholic Church, where despite calls for change, the Vatican has reiterated the teaching that the priesthood cannot be opened to women and married men because of the model set by Jesus.

If you want a religion that was similar to Christianity then have a read about Mithra/Mithraism.

If you want a religion that was similar to Christianity then have a read about Mithra/Mithraism. Not quite similar as all cult members were male and most military. But yes, there are several things from the Mithraism that Christianism adopted one to one, the Eucharisty is just one example.

Why is it STILL a surprise that he was married? He was a Jew and part of their religion is marriage.

For some reason, when I first heard of such document claiming that Jesus had a wife, I knew that the Vatican was going to say that it was a fake document or something to that manner. Now, do I believe that Jesus had a wife? Well it's possible but it still wouldn't change how I see the world.

Vatican will cease to exist if Jesus was fake.
