Colonel G.E. Laidlaw recorded an intriguing tale told by the First Nations people of central Ontario.
500 years ago two natives from an Ojibwa village in the region were said to have come across a strange man sitting alone in a field who they described as 'clean and shining bright'. When asked what he was doing the stranger responded by claiming that he had "dropped down from above" and that he didn't belong there.
The Ojibwa invited the man back to their village and there he stayed for a short time, however he appeared mostly restless and would regularly watch the skies on the basis that he expected something to come and take him back. One afternoon something did indeed arrive, a bright star-like object which descended from above and landed nearby. The story ended with the 'Skyman' entering the object and ascending in to the heavens.
Could it be that the Ojibwa were visited by someone from another world or was it just a myth ? The truth behind the story may never be known.[!gad]500 years ago two natives from an Ojibwa village in the region were said to have come across a strange man sitting alone in a field who they described as 'clean and shining bright'. 500 years ago there was a large Ojibwa village about 550 native people living somewhere in our region. One day, a pair of them stumbled upon a stranger sitting on the grass in a field. This figure, a male, was notably “clean and shining bright. ”
