Mystery light forms circle of fire

Authorities in Australia have been left baffled following the formation of a mysterious circle of fire.

The incident took place in Tasmania where fire and police crews were alerted by calls from concerned residents who reported witnessing a strange shaft of light beaming down from the sky and setting a circular patch of grass on fire. Firefighters were soon on the scene and had no difficulty in putting out the blaze, however the exact nature of what happened remains something of a mystery.

"Once we put the fire out, we kind of walked through the fire and tried to find something," said Tasmania Fire Service officer Scott Vinen. "We thought a flare or something may have landed there, but we couldn't find any cause."

"Tasmanian police and firefighters are unable to explain the source of a beam of light which reportedly fell from the sky and formed a circle of fire in a Hobart suburb."

No one mentioned lightning and i think they would have said so? People come up with all sorts of crazy crap to explain simple things. Could have been an abnormal looking lightning bolt. It explains everything... Maybe a crop circle in the making, but there was a malfunction, and the energy beam used to make it became too strong; strong enough to set fire to the grass. Small burned areas have been noted in crop circles before. The fact that the burned area was not perfectly round does not seem to be significant. Once the fire started, it would presumably spread somewhat irregularly, on its own.... [More]

People come up with all sorts of crazy crap to explain simple things. Could have been an abnormal looking lightning bolt. It explains everything... Lol a crop circle? Really? Did you see how short the grass is in the photo? Wouldn't some type of tall grass or 'crop' be a prerequisite for making a crop circle rather than short dry grass on dirt? Aliens must be experimenting with dusty dry dirt circles these days - just not perfected yet. I'll keep an eye out. Sorry but you made me laugh... There is discernible grass in that field. It could presumably be pressed down, leaving a visible circle. F... [More]

Welcome to the group, ozziemate. Your explanation for the 'circle of fire' in Tasmania is highly original. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone suggest that a solar flare could start a grass fire. to be honest I have actually witnessed something similar years ago, which is why I was prompted to put thoughts to paper so to speak... and yes it is up there for originality I guess. Certainly I expect no credibility.
