"The massive sheet pressed down on the Earth, deforming the crust somewhat like a Sumo wrestler on a trampoline surface." That's one way of explaining it! To my understanding, I always read that gravity wasn't really a variable, but more of a scale with altitude. The futher you are from the magnetic field, the lighter the gravitational pull is.
