I always thought gravity was the attraction that mass creates and exerts on objects of lesser mass, in essence pulling everything together according to the attraction strength of varying levels dependent on the location of the objects to one another. A good example is merely looking at our spiral galaxy. Using the stars in our galaxy as an indication of the strength of gravity on the galactic plane you can see how all the mass within the galaxy is slowly being crushed into the center of the Milky Way where there is reportedly a black hole, the densest common thing in astronomical science.
