I agree, that's when it definitely sounded fake, then he went into all his bad acting, lol

I'm not sure what worries me more. A person who goes through the whole playacting bit on a radio show, or the person who wholeheartedly believes it. I think I'll go for the latter.

Yes, it was a hoax... and hoaxes like this happened on Art Bell's show a lot in the early 90s... it was what made it so fun to listen to. I heard the show when it aired live, and if I remember right, the guy who played the hoax called back and confirmed that he had not been in a plane over Area 51. it was pretty funny. Remember, back then, Art ran the show out of his mobile home house, he had no call screeners, engineers or anything, just Art in his back bedroom live. Occasionally his wife would pop in and say something, his frickin cats would sit on the controls... it was high comedy re... [More]

Has anyone thought about how it's VERY unlikely that there's cellphone reception in the desert? In the desert at 1,000 ft? In a restricted zone? If he did have a cellphone wouldn't it be easily jammed? I'm very skeptical...

Could be a hoax, but who knows

They played this hoax call again on Coast to Coast last night. You see it pop up from time to time on message boards. There are always a few crazies who will believe it and claim it was legit. No matter how fake it clearly sounds. But all you need to know is the original air-date of the call. April 1st, 1997. And there you go. The old Art Bell show use to be full of hoaxes. Art was in on some of them. The show was not suppose to be taken seriously.

well, you may call me cazy, but i think i sounds pretty real. it could be fake, but in my opinion, its pretty legit. And i feel bad for the guy if he actually crashed. but yea. the one thing is though, you people don't have to believe in aliens or whatever, but don't be ignorant. i highly doubt that we are the only life forms in this universe. its a big universe afterall. so its clearly possible. its only a matter of time till we actually create technology that will take us further into the universe and then discover these "beings".

I think sometimes, the show was meant to be taken very seriously. This was not one of those occasions. The sound effects are just all wrong, the guy is obviously acting, and that isn't what happens when you try to pull a stunt like that. He'd never even get close to a secure military installation in a civilian aircraft. Having said that, it's fun, and I love Coast2Coast, may it be around long after I'm dust!
