I always thought it was probably viewed as a threat to religious groups at the time. Atomic theory was first being thought as far back as 400BC for example. The understanding of mathematics and our solar system were being understood also during this time.Im sure the scrolls contained examples of forward/critical thinking that couldnt be tolerated by these groups. One Thousand Years would pass before Copernicus came along. Think about that.. Its a tragedy our advancement in science was oppressed and held back for so long
