I've seen this film before, it's very impressive IMO. One has to remember that this was filmed long before computer generated imaging (long before modern computers even existed). Also, in 1950 there were no artificial satellites orbiting Earth. I thought that this was not a spontaneous speech. Following his eye movements, and lack of body language, it looked to me as if he was reading from a "Prompter" screen-board-notes. IOW, this was a ed interview imo. That said, his information sounded factual to me, a non-informed lay person.

IOW, this was a ed interview imo. Absolutely, back in the 1950's it was standard operating proceedure to everything. When I said that the "film was impressive", I meant the video of the UFOs. That said, his information sounded factual to me, a non-informed lay person. I tend to think it went down basically the way Mr. Mariana said it did. He managed to film some interesting UFOs.

Nick Mariana UFO footage Click here to watch video - 04:58s This video includes the segments of the film relating to Nick Mariana's UFO footage filmed in 1950. I am a real skeptic but I must say that considering the time this was filmed I am impressed. Pretty cool stuff.

Considering the footage on its own I have no problem with the official explanation for this supposed event. A blurb from the wiki article: However, according to Air Force officer Edward J. Ruppelt, who would become the supervisor of the Air Force's Project Blue Book investigation into the UFO mystery in 1951, "in 1950 there was no interest [by the Air Force] in the UFO, so after a quick viewing, Project Grudge had written them off as the reflections from two F-94 jet fighters that were in the area". This explanation, of course, was later disputed by those seeking validation for the budding ETH... [More]

The official explanation was that these were unknowns. Mariana saw the two jets going by as well, but these were not the UFOs.

In his book, Edward Ruppelt wrote that he asked Mariana to send him the film for analysis in 1952, and they determined that the UFOs were not F-94 jets. This case remains an unknown. http://books.google.com/books?id=XQ0QylbGR_IC&pg=PA261&dq=ruppelt+mariana&hl=en&ei=bqIUTpvWBMyFsAK0k9jUDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CC4Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false

Of course it remains unknown, but I don't see any reason to think that this is anything but reflections from distant aircraft, whether they were the F-94 jets or not. Dr. William Hartmann, an astronomer for the University of Arizona, analyzed the Mariana UFO film for the Condon Report. His conclusion was that "the [Mariana] case remains unexplained...the images on the film are difficult to reconcile with aircraft or other known phenomena, although aircraft cannot be entirely ruled out". Why would anyone abandon this entirely prosaic and consistent explanation in favor of ET piloted vehicles un... [More]

I didn't abandon it. Edward Ruppelt and the Air Force spent months analyzing this film back in 1952 and determined that whatever was flying around there, it wasn't aircraft--no aircraft that we know--and they don't look like planes. As Mariana said himself, they did not even have wings or tails. Ruppelt also ruled out reflections.

Interesting but hardly amazing at the same time. Did they check to see if any aircraft were in the area at the time? Did they have records of that? Could they have been airforce planes?

These objects are not man-made and they are solid objects flying thru the air...these are the real things...and i see a previous statement that it's reflections from a distant aircraft....it's like are you out of your mind? Don't you know anything about physics? If it's anything it's not a reflection. See, when the real thing is there you dissmiss it...when someone blows up balloons with candles in them you believe that though.
