Emerging from the chrysalis

Well it's been a while.

Not sure what made me come in. Thought of doing it many times, but so much going on.

I found a home elsewhere. They do not mock my spiritual beliefs, which is appreciated.

Still friends, offline, with a couple people I met here, all those years ago...

We think about 7 years... I think so..

Well. Still haven't even peeked into the forum. Figured I would post first.

Love too all old friends that may read this.

There is balance in the world

So, Fair To Midland is no more, but as if on cue, one of my all time favorite bands has reformed after 20 years of dissolution .

Kept in touch all these years though...

My pleas for a tour of the USA are already grating on their nerves, but this is of course inevitable.... , or I will kick someone's butt, big time.

Simbis Horchata Recipe

Quite a few people have asked for my horchata recipe ,so I'm posting it for anyone who wants it.

It is actually quite easy to make ,and you can spike it with alcohol when you serve it too .

It's very light ,and you can play with the amt of sweetners and liquids.

You can probably make it decadent by using cream instead of milk too ,but I haven't tried that yet .

This final recipe is the culmination of trying a few recipes, and using what I like best, for one mega recipe .

I do make a yummy rice pudding with the rice as well.

Simbis Horchata

Ingredient :

1 1/3rd cups of uncooked white rice .Pref long grain of some kind . I use Japanese rice. It makes a lovely milky liquid .

5 cups water

1/3rd cup sweetened condensed milk

3/4th cup milk

1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 Mexican cinnamon stick

1/2 cup sugar I use demera or raw cane sugar, but you can use white . You can tweak the sugar to you liking .More or less .

Directions : First ,I put the rice into a grinder ,and do some rough pulsing ,to break it up a bit. It makes for a much milkier horchata . I put the rice into a container with a lid. I take the cinnamon stick and break it into about 3 pieces, and add it to the rice. I then pour two cups of boiling water over it. I cover it ,and let it cool . Once it cools ,I put it in the fridge over night . Next day ,strain all the liquid out .

I save the rice for rice pudding ,or you can compost it

To the liquid ,I add the vanilla extract ,then the condensed milk . Then I add the remaining cups of water ,and the milk. You can play with this. Add less water, more milk. Its better if it has less fat .Makes it lighter,so i leave this part alone.

Now add the sugar,a bit at a time ,and keep testing. You can just add it all,but like I said ,its better lighter. Not cloyingly sweet.

I chill it then .

Once all of this is done. Pour into glasses with ice ,top with a splash of rum if you see fit. A shot glass full does the trick . Many people add the rum. I might try it at some point ,with coconut rum .

Also, some horchata recipes also use blanched, skinless almond slivers. I don't like almond in my drinks ,but you can add a half a cup of almonds the recipe ,with a bit more water ,to add the almond to it. I leave it out .

You can also be really fancy ,and use half a vanilla bean instead of extract . To do this,I add it to the rice soaking boiling water stage. Up to you .

Eat It Before The Bread Dissolves .....

In the immortal words of Dave Lister ...

Yes folks ,its that time of year for me.

Like clockwork ,I get a hankering to watch Red Dwarf ,A to Zed .

Start to finish . The last few years ,its been an extra happy ending, with a new series to add to the quque.

I'm mid way thru series IV ,and I've never wanted to do this before ,but with my recent love affair with bacon buddies ,I thought, why not ...

The infamous three fried eggs ,mango chutney and chili sauce sandwich .

Yes,its time. I haven't decided if I will do the beer milk shakes as well, but I might .....I might ...

Making the mango chutney now . Home made is best :)

CBGBs Movie

Anyone who actually hung out at CBGBs ,is not pleased with this movie .

All of us are just tilting out heads and going,WTF .

I had no idea Johnny Galeki had been cast . I like him .Never heard of most of the rest of them .

See sad thing is,the band's that came out of CBs at the beginning, did not hang out together a lot.

Television didn't hang out with The Ramones . Blondie didn't really hang out with Iggy.

The Police certainly didn't hang out with Patti Smith ,or Glenn Danzig

I mean sure, they knew one another in passing ,but most of them had their own inner circle ,and the band's they did hang out with ,have been completely ignored .

How it really all went down, will not be demonstrated by this movie ,is our feeling .

Small bands were all over this scene, and in some cases ,an intricate part .

Bands like Shrapnel,The Rattlers,The Speedies ,The Colors ,The Brats,The Misfits ,The Fast ,god..so many ....

Tip of the iceberg .

Also ,it was filmed on a movie set like down in North Carolina or something .

Most of us are just saying *foul*

Rolling our eyes . How can you capture the mood of the Bowrey ,outside of NYC ?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1786751/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

Correction ,Savannah Ga.

I dont know where EV gets their photos ,but no one else has them.

The comments here are very telling.

Richard Hell said he wasnt contacted at all,but the movie people claim they tried to speak to as many people who were actually there,as possible .

Where ?

I didn't see anyone cast as Arturo Vega ,that's for sure...

http://evgrieve.com/2013/01/back-on-bowery-sort-of.html

The Ramones parts will be hard for me to watch though....

*sighs*

Edit :

I found another link.

None of us get this Genya Raven thing.

She was not around a lot,and not a big deal .

Food Glorious Food

I am a massive foodie . My great love is of course Asian food .

I don't have many foods I dislike ,but Korean and Mexican ,are never first choices for me,but I do eat both.

I'm also a snooty tea drinker ^_^ ,so right this moment ,I'm drinking this ;

http://www.butikiteas.com/Purple.html

It's so new,its hard to find, and quite expensive.

You only have to use a little to brew a cup,or its horridly bitter.

It is,in fact, purple. Supposidly filled with antioxidants.

The flavor of the one I got is quite light ,but I cannot see drinking it ,other than for the health benefits.

I like hearty teas.

This is another review of it .

As for food, because of my leanings,I actually can cook many Asian dishes .Mostly Japanese ,but I do some Vietnamese,Chinese ,and Thai .A couple of Indian .

A few Spanish ,and a lot of Italian . I was raised in an Italian household .

So I've been dabbling in new recipes as of late, and I thought I would share them to anyone who might be interested .

This,is off the hook .It takes hours, but its so worth it . I've made it twice already .

Any of my friends who had it,has called me to ask me to make it again, asap.

The comment at the bottom,is also mine .

http://www.keyingredient.com/recipes/28788105/caramelized-pork/

I also make Chinese congee .. I don't even use a recipe. If anyone wants me to expound upon how to make it,just ask :)

For japanese recipes ,ask. I make very specific things, that I like to eat ,but okonomiyaki, udon ,tamagoyaki . I do a traditional Japanese breakfast, quite a lot . Gyudon ,shabu shabu ,tempura, miso soup ,kushiage .

Then,I am a huge fan of Vietnamese pho . The soup staple . It's always good on cold days.

I have made it before ,but I recently found this website, and just wept with joy ,at all the varieties .

I made one with both chicken and pork this week .

Soooo goooogggggoooodddddd.

I highly recommend trying some of these recipes. Delicious !

Japan Nail Expo 2012

If no one knows, nail art is HUGE in Japan . Nothing like it is here ,no matter how fancy we do it .

There are even vending machines on the street ,where you can stick your fingers in ,and have your nails done by the machine .

Every year they do the Expo ,and they also have a Nail Queen contest . Usually famous people win .

I happened to click on it ,and the 3D nails, are fascinating.. Big business there.

Apparently you can even put fur on your nails, but I saw no examples.

I found this person's blog ,and she appears to be a nail maven . Not sure if she went to Japan for just the expo, but maybe ..

I actually never do my nails ,except to keep them trim and manicured, because to do acupuncture ,you must have clean simple nails ,for palpating points and so forth .

I just found this fascinating .
