We are pilgrilms on the way

We are pilgrims on the way A winding down is our lives; roots deepen as the limbs and foliage slowly wear down and are let go of; our vitality and beauty traded for something else; a look of being worn out from the journey, seeing the end but still taking that one step, then another, until no steps are possible, then perhaps there is waiting, just being, even if it can be a painful process, so much in life is filled with hurting, yet we just take that step, whether it is an outer mo

We are not too rational

We are not too rational As a species, I believe we have to struggle to be rational and objective. People may fear to approach someone who is homeless, or even to attempt to help them because they fear that the person may be mentally ill and dangerous (which can be true at times)…. or that they will simply use the money they give them for destructive purposes. Then on the other hand, while driving, if someone cuts them off, they may without a second thought beep their horn, use aggressi

We are not pampered

We are not pampered   Christians, in their suffering, know on some level that they are united to Jesus in his sufferings for the salvation of the world.   As St. Paus says:  “I make up in my body, what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ Jesus”.   In other words, the passion of Jesus is lived out in each of our lives.   The more we understand that and seek wisdom, the more we can withstand suffering without becoming bitter or sad to say, losing our faith.  There is no magic man in the

We are not just one of many

We are not just one of many He and I retreat 5-7 August 2016 “Don’t you believe that when you pray I listen to you, and that I love you?  Pray, believing and loving.  Adore and give thanks.  Humbly adore, trustfully adore, with faith in Me, the all-powerful one.  Adore, while you are loving Me” He and I message (4/16/39)   published by Pauline press ++++++++++ One of the struggles of living a life of prayer is that it can become perfunctory, or perhaps mindless is a bett

We are not good, we struggle to be good

We are not good, we struggle to be good This morning I had an interesting conversation with one of our employees about his dad.  He told me that his dad would often talk to him about the struggle with good and evil.  Even when his dad was in his late 80’s he would speak about his inner struggle which even at his extreme old age it still went on.  He told his son that every morning when he got up he would make sure that some doors in his mind were opened and others remained shut.  I fo

We are meant to listen

We are meant to listen If there is not a a relationship with the more irrational and instinctive sides of the self; a relationship that is not based on fear or self contempt, then that which is feared and hated will scream until heard, often after some event that happens to get our attention. We are meant to listen with compassion to our inner pains, angers and desires, as if they were little children trying to get our attention

We are meant to breathe

We are meant to breathe Those people who seek to understand ‘life’. The ‘why’ of it? The ‘reason’ we are here? Can come across as depressing too many, who don’t understand why numerous people seem compelled to dig deeper into the inscrutability of their lives. While it is true that everyone accepts that our lives are short, that time seems to be faster than our 60 minute hour seems to tell us, yet after this is said, it is buried under other endeavors. At times to actually understand how

We are made of fire

We are made of fire The inner life is like the weather. Or like the Atlantic Ocean. Weather changes for there are storms, rain, bright lightning and loud thunder and snow and hail. Then there is spring, sunshine, summer, grinding heat and fall and winter. Constant flux seems to be the only steady-state in our inner lives. Sometimes the waves can be very large and we get overturned, but we can always swim back to the surface and keep swimming or find a plank to cling to. There is some

We are made for relationship

We are made for relationship   No moment spent in My presence is without value. Every moment given Me is precious in My sight and becomes fruitful for the whole Church. It is not a question of quantity, of spending long hours in My presence when the duties of one’s state in life require something else. What I ask instead is the moment of pure adoration and of love offered to Me from a simple, childlike heart.   A Benedictine Monk. In Sinu Jesu: When Heart Speaks to Heart --The Journal of a

We are like children always at the beginning

We are always children just beginning the journey.     “There are souls with whom I can do nothing. They are souls that are continuously observing others, but know nothing of what is going on within their own selves. They talk about others continually, even during times of grand silence, which is reserved for speaking only with Me. Poor souls, they do not hear My words; their interior remains empty. They do not look for Me within their own hearts, but in idle talk, where I am never to be fou

We are known, there is nothing to fear

We are known, there is nothing to fear Dear children! I am thanking God for each of you. In a special way, little children, thank you for having responded to my call. I am preparing you for the new times that you may be firm in faith and persevering in prayer, so that the Holy Spirit may work through you and renew the face of the earth. I am praying with you for peace which is the most precious gift, even though Satan wants war and hatred. You, little children, be my extended hands and p

We are in relationship with the Eternal One

We are in relationship with the Eternal One The dignity of the human person is a transcendent value, always recognized as such by those who sincerely search for the truth. Indeed, the whole of human history should be interpreted in the light of this certainty. Every person, created in the image and likeness of God (cf. Gn 1:26 28), is therefore radically oriented towards the Creator, and is constantly in relationship with those possessed of the same dignity. To promote the good of the in

We are held in the palm of God's hand

We are all held in the palm of God’s hand 1488: (You see, my child, what you are of yourself. The cause of your falls is that you rely too much upon yourself and too little on me. But let this not sadden you so much. You are dealing with the God of mercy, which your misery cannot exhaust. Remember, I did not allot only a certain number of pardons.). (Diary of Sister Faustina, conversations with souls 1485-1489) How deep is our capacity to receive mercy? The same question can be said

We are freer than we know

We are freer than we know, but in ways that we may not understand “Dear children! My call for you is prayer. May prayer be a joy for you and a wreath which binds you to God. Little children, trials will come and you will not be strong, and sin will reign but, if you are mine, you will win, because your refuge will be the Heart of my Son Jesus. Therefore, little children, return to prayer until prayer becomes life for you in the day and the night. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

We are driven irrational creatures (this is probably a rant)

We are driven irrational creatures (this is probably a rant) We don't look at problems logically, we look at them emotionally. We look at them through the guts. We look at them as if we're doing a high school problem, like what is beautiful, what makes me recognized among my peers. We don't go and think about things. We, as a society, don't wish to engage in rational thought. Sebastian Thrun To love others, our enemies, to show mercy, seems sentimental and weak to many, yet I belie

We are children in some ways

We are children in some ways I believe we are children in some ways. Or we lost it and need to get it back. Faith is not a relief from the struggle of all the 'why's' of life, it does however give some kind of path that actually gets more opaque as one travels down it. None of our pious ideas come true, we are not protected from whatever happens, bad things, good things, love or hatred.....they happen. Perhaps down deep it is our reactions that allow us to return to a childlike position

We are called to share, not force change

We are called to share, not force change   We are living in a time of 'endings'. Structures are falling, perhaps even some structures in the Catholic Church. I believe we must speak the truth without worrying about convincing. When we do not do that it leads to arguments, which is not really communication. We all plant seeds, and we receive seeds that if we allowed them to grow could be harmful, others leading to new life.   When we speak truth calmly, understanding

We are called to mercy

We are called to mercy 13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.( 1st Peter 13-15) +++++ In Christianity we are called upon to put on Christ Jesus. We are called to love beyond family

We are called to love beyond family   When anger, contempt and stereotyping are in play, it can act as a wall of protection from seeing ourselves in others, in their pain, isolation and their many forms of suffering. It lessens our own humanity, for si n is a way that is used to escape the most central truth of life….that others for us, especially those we do not identify with, those with which we have a natural antipathy towards, are in fact for us an encounter with Christ Jesus. We are blessed to receive (those who come to our retreat house)

We are blessed to receive (those who come to our retreat house) It was a busy weekend at the retreat house. Most weekends are. The people that come here are such a gift to our community. Some only come once, others come often, all have something important that they bring here. I don’t of course meet most of them on a one to one, but in all of them I see people who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with the Infinite. Most are Christian from divers
