Trying to be caregiver

Trying to be a caregiver Boundaries can be difficult when trying to be a caregiver. Each person is so unique that different paths need to be taken with them. The compulsive side to any gift one has is the major source of suffering in any aspect of work and the only way out of that situation is to yet again look at the under-side of the upper-side. People who need to be taken care or in positions of powerlessness that most of us don't understand until we are there. So when to allow and w

Trying another kind of love

Trying another kind of love Agape is a Greek word ( ἀγάπη, agápē) used to describe God’s love for us. Jesus shows us what this love of God is by his teaching and commandments. For instance, human love is for the most part conditional, because it is based either on instinct or on need. We love another because we need them; we also want them to respond to us. If there is no response the relationship will most likely die, or turn into an obsession. Parental love is the closest love

Trust/Friendship/God/one large circle

Trust/Friendship/God/one large circle March 9—Le Fresne church. “Don’t have a care in the world unless it be the fear of offending Me. Everything is in My hand and I am all-Power. Don’t be afraid of focusing all your attention on Me and what concerns Me. Call back your wandering thoughts so that they follow My way only. Learn to control your mind, and center everything in Me. Take My strength for this, the strength I had in the wilderness to ward off hunger. . . . “Oh, My dear little girl, you

Trust the process

There is a proverb that always seems to speak to me…..”Trust the process”…..a simple statement no doubt, but when meditated upon when going thru some change in life, can be very helpful, and even comforting. Change can bring to the surface many conflicting emotions, and feelings; excitement, fear, and anxiety, with each flowing thru the conscious awareness one after another, sometimes perhaps being experienced all at once. Causing a swift experience of “ups” and “downs”, that can be unnervi

Trust is essential in our waiting

Advent Trust is essential in our waiting “One of the essential paradoxes of Advent: that while we wait for God, we are with God all along, that while we need to be reassured of God’s arrival, or the arrival of our homecoming, we are already at home. While we wait, we have to trust, to have faith, but it is God’s grace that gives us that faith. As with all spiritual knowledge, two things are true, and equally true, at once. The mind can’t grasp paradox; it is the knowledge of the soul.”― M

Trust God Clean House Help Others

A way of life   A friend of mine on Facebook, a beautiful soul, as well as a regular retreatant here, sent me a plaque which I liked at once and found it cheerful and encouraging. It is very colorful and has a very wise message said in very simple language.   Trust God Clean House Help Others   I hung it up just behind our serving line so it could be enjoyed by all who pass through. Trust ain’t easy

Trust ain’t easy Often our trust is not full. We are not certain that God hears us because we consider ourselves worthless and as nothing. This is ridiculous and the very cause of our weakness. I have felt this way myself. —Julian of Norwich One of the greatest dangers of religion is the concepts of God that are developed over a period of time. Notions of God can only be gleaned from our human experience of one another. In the Christian faith for instance God is revealed as

Trump Rap

Trump Rap I know this is not a good place to play, but I decided write some "Trump Rap". It is both in fun and serious. I get confused over politics, but can't say I trust this guy. Trump Rap Yo Yo, Gather round friends and listen to me I from the billionaire ghetto and I can be mean; I get what want when I want it, and if anyone gets in my way I just run them out for good I have a team of lawyers so I can what I please,

Truly human

Truly human Being a Christian is about allowing Jesus to work through us, from our heart united to his pure, loving, human heart. It is about “being’ before ‘doing’. Loving ourselves, something hard won, that comes through self knowledge, which allows us to see others as brothers and sisters on the path who fall and getting up, move forward. Self knowledge keeps self-righteousness at bay, since our own knowledge of our weaknesses and sinfulness, keeps us in contact with the truth of our

Truly human

Truly human Being human, truly human, is an enterprise that I believe we are all on. There are cultural customs that will often stop this process, or slow it down considerably. We are like rough pieces of furniture, unvarnished, waiting for the finishing touches to be applied so that we can be what we were made to be. How do we fail? All that is needed is to look at any cultural throughout history, or religion, or philosophy and yes ideologies, to see how easy it is to fail. They seem

Truly fully human

Truly fully human One way to reach people is to be honest, open and trying not to impress. A lot of time is spent in pretending, when in reality things can be the opposite. As humans we adapt to anything and everything. When we are in deep pain it can become ‘normal’, until one day the inner dike breaks and one can drown. While there are moments in our lives when things come together, it does not last…..in fact, nothing last in this life. If there is not someone we can be ourselves w

True North

True North I was asked to drive one of the brothers to a doctor’s appointment yesterday afternoon. I have known him a long time; in fact we were novices together in 1971. He stayed for a short time then went back to teaching. He was a Christian Brother (teaching order). He reentered here around 2000. As I was driving him in to his appointment, he shared with me how beautiful he finds the world and how thankful he is to God when he wakes up everyday. About five years ago, when he was 80 or

This is an older piece that I want to reshare. Fr. James and Br. Lauren (both deceased) are part of this essay, and in rereading it brought back some fond memories. Also, my brother is himself into photography, and very good at it. The picture below is his, and one of my favorites. I have it in my room and never tire of looking at it.--Br.MD   True North   I was asked to drive one of the brothers to a doctor’s appointment yesterday afternoon. True love cast out fear

True love cast out fear The first epistle of John states that “true love cast out fear”, that is my goal, I cannot truly live a loving life, nor have a deep prayer life when fear has a strangle hold on me.

True judgment

True judgment If I do something wrong and am judged on my ‘sin’, I have no recourse since it is true. Of course in the human situation, we have to put up safe guards because when we judge it can be faulty or simply wrong. So we have the concept “beyond reasonable doubt”. When humans judge, in court or otherwise it is hard to pin point the actual truth of the matter. Before God, judgment coincides with absolute truth, there is no need for “the beyond reasonable doubt” clause. Infinite

True inner freedom

True inner freedom

True inner freedom We can’t love others unless we actually love ourselves in God’s unconditional, infinite love. For we can only be lovingly truthful, and present, when our love is rooted in our relationship with God. Otherwise, while our love for others can be good, there are often underlying conditions for the love to continue. In other words, it is based on need alone, and so, is self-centered. This knowledge that is imparted to us to the degree that we can handle it, is necessary, and also

True center

True-Center There is a price to pay for self awareness. To self reflect brings to mind ones separation from others. The deeper our self awareness also brings with it a deeper price than simply being self aware. Human beings know that they exist, will die, are afraid and often feel alone. When this is not understood as the common thread in all lives, that our unique selves are not so different from others, is a great cause of suffering in the world. The great ‘I’, surrounded by others

Troubles in community

Troubles in community The church will always have troubles. The letters of St. Paul were written to deal with specific problems in the different churches, most of them serious. Jesus had probably more problems with the first 12 than is written in the Gospels. Our human nature is such that most of us from time to time will also be some kind of a problem for the communities that we belong to. Moral failures, in fighting, gossip and struggles for power, are common aspects of any community

Trip to Texas

Time with Fr. Robert Dohle, Georgia, Trisha and Vicki Went to visit family late last month and got back yesterday on the 9th of Dec.  In the past, there were more of my brothers and sisters living in the Lake Jackson/Freeport area in Texas.  Now there is Robert and Georgia.  Robert, being the oldest boy (now that my brother Skip died about two years ago) and Georgia being the youngest girl.  Judy and Jane are at this time in Utah taking care of a medical issue.  They are usually in the ar

Trepidation

Trepidation Fear as a strategy can work in the short run, but it never seems good for planning anything long term. I remember when in high school taking driver’s education. They would show us films with all kinds of gory titles. One of them I think was call “mechanized death”, that would show all the gruesome details of the aftermath of a serious car accident. They would also add some story line in some of the films to show what led up to the accident. The films did leave a cold feeling
