Jesus said an interesting thing to his family in the Gospel of John? “The world cannot hate you but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil”. We all know that there is much wrong not only in our own cultures, but actually in every culture throughout history and perhaps it may be getting worse. Evil seems to be that which consumes all that is around it, objectifying everything, seeing and valuing things and people on a scale that is narcissist to its core
The pope speaks,
A nun shot in the back,
What are we to do?
The world is moving towards chaos.
Our bent on self destruction;
Hatred of others,
Is coming to fruition
The fruit is deadly
Destroying all who taste it,
Bitter, yet desired by many
To their own deaths.
Soon the whole world will be drawn in,
Muslims nations made hostage
For the crimes of terrorist
Who rain down fear upon the earth.
Like a plague it spreads,
Fear breeds more hatred,
What are we made for?
There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.
I believe the above is true. The deepest desire is to ‘seen’, to be loved and accepted. It is what we do to seek happiness that causes so much trouble. Love is not the problem, it is how much do I love, and what will I do to get it. People will sacrifice everything for their careers, for wealth, or for beauty, or for perfect health, while turning their backs on what rea
What are we here for?
Science can open a lot of doors for us. If used rightly and not for destructive purposes our future could be very bright. However it is not the only avenue for seeking to understand reality or our place in it. We are conscious beings, with a higher brain, something that is quantitatively different from any other animal on earth. There are highly intelligent animals and the more we learn about them, hopefully the sooner we will hopefully start to treat them with more re
Well-spring of joy
Joy is deeper than happiness. Without some well-spring of joy, any kind of happiness is not possible. We are creatures who seek meaning in our life, which can lead to joy that is deep and enduring. Even aging, when life is understood as a pilgrimage can bring joy. For each stage of live is more important than the one that preceded it. Life is precious and very short. It is that understanding that gives life its depth and richness…. and urgency as well. True success

Once a month I see someone; her name is Inge. She understands the stress that all of us humans go through in our lives. She also understands how many of our problems have deep roots. So she helps people like me, take responsibility for their existential situation, face their past, and learn what they need to do in order to keep growing into becoming a more loving human being. L.David Leiter of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania was for several years 'actively' engaged with the Philadelphia Association for Critical Thinking (PhACT) after being introduced to it by an old friend, a sometime CSICOP supporter who had left that organisation 'in protest over specific non-professional behaviour on their part'. This, Leiter has found, is 'a seemingly frequent complaint of former CSICOPers'.
Leiter is all for what he calls ordinary skepticism which 'acts to refi
Weariness at times envelops perception.
The body, mind, and soul,
Depleted of energy,
Simply weary of existence, seeking rest.
The oneness of oblivion,
No-thing-ness, the void,
Anything to overcome the standing apart.
The earth beckons its arms wide inviting,
Sink into the cold silent earth it sooths,
The darkness of eternal sleep
Where all separation ends.
Offering us a lie
Since eternal oblivion is denied us.

This piece is not about depression or others mental states that need outside medical help, it is about growing in freedom and how difficult that can be at times. It is more about my own path actually than about anyone else.
The human experience is deep and complex and there are simply no easy answers to find out the reason for any of it. Within each person that we see walking down the footpath, or passing in their cars, or the huge crowds we see hurrying around us in the airport;
Wearing a cowl can be interesting
Cowls are in reality our religious habits, but we only use them in the colder months. We are also buried in them.
There can be some humorous moments in dealing with these garments.
One morning, I got up late and was rushing to make it on time to 'vigils'. So I hurriedly put on my cowl. I was having trouble getting in over my head and got frustrated. I then realized that I was trying to get my large head into the sleeve. So I pulled it of
We wrap each other in chains
To judge another can be a heavy-weight,
the pain it causes is often not felt as suffering,
yet to judge means to belittle the one judged,
or to carry resentment and anger because they are different.
Or again by holding one to wrongs done to us,
we deepen the wound, giving power to those who hurt us.
We wrap each other in chains from our lack of understanding
of the burdens, we put upon others, just as those who hurt us may

We Would Die of Joy
All things pass,
that can be consoling,
stay calm and take the next step,
we have this moment
then it is is gone, so important the 'now',
even the bad times,
especially the hard painful situations,
for when present, we are face to face
with the deepest mystery,
revealed to us as Infinite Love,
a love so profound that if we felt it
for even one second in all of its power,
we would die of joy.--Br.MD
We need not be victims
When angry with someone from the past,
when energy is spent in reliving the event,
time is wasted on a memory,
something past and gone,
often giving power to those who hurt
whether it was intentional or not.
We need not be victims,
heavy chains that only we have the key for,
which is forgiveness,
hard to achieve but freeing for the soul,
allowing it once more to be free
and to fly.
"Forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass ag
We just have to have FUN!!!!!!!
Gail, came for a visit yesterday. She brings Banana Cake, and we have strong coffee with it. It is a very nice ritual that we have and we sit and talk. She is like a large minority of the population that is thoughtful and in this thoughtfulness, being aware can cause some concerns for her. This important group of people are often overlooked because their perspective is a call to introspection, and if I may use the word, conversion.
She lives in the t
We hope and seek answers
I love this part of the country. In the winter the skies are clear and the cold bearable, it does not eat you down to the bone. Since our airport is one of the busiest in the world on some nights it is quite a light show watching the planes circle the city waiting for their turn to land.
I am not much of a traveler, flying here and there does not appeal to me, but it is wonderful how we can fly from place to place now. When I look at the far away lights I thin
We have to put things in perspective
We’re supposed to treat all people with respect and compassion - Not everyone who experiences same sex attraction are radical homosexualists campaigning naked in the streets. People with same sex attraction are not all rabid atheists looking to destroy the church and persecute Christians. We have to put things in perspective and give ourselves a reality check. This doesn’t mean we approve of homosexual actions. It just means we should be thoughtful, a
We have to give ourselves to something
It is easy to forget that our lives are important and our
choices and the path we choose invested with deep meaning.
One thing I find intriguing is the way people deal with life. By people, I am putting myself in that group. We all know that life is a tough journey, no matter who you are, or how rich or poor you are, or how intelligent you are. Rich people suffer as well as poor. You can’t get away from it. We also as a species seem to
We have one life
To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life;foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent.---Buddha
When dealing with grief as we are this weekend, people come together who have become diligent. The temporal nature of ‘things’, of people, our health and yes, youth and old age, all pass by and our self awareness is always watching. We can often forget that and get caught up in dramas that lead nowhere.
People who have died and ar
We grow into something beautiful or monstrous
“God never violates our free will. It is up to us whether we want to receive
God’s grace or not. It is up to us whether we will co-operate
with it or waste it” (Faustina Diary, 1107).
Today many try to deny that we are free, that we have a will that can be developed and strengthened by the choices that we actually make…and in our choices we ‘become’. In that becoming, in our free choices, we grow into something beautiful or monstrou
We don’t travel alone
(All souls day 2014)
This morning 15 minutes before Lauds I went out back to visit our cemetery which is behind our church. Since I have been here the community has experienced 51 deaths. All men that I knew, some more than others, a few were friends, but I loved all of them. We were on a journey together and I believe that it is still going on.
One body, one Lord, One Head, Jesus Christ, in him we are all united for eternity. So my brothers here resting
We do have a spirit
No matter what ones religious belief, or lack of, we do have a Spirit that needs to be attended to. The Spirit within each of us is made for joy, love, happiness.... if we do not develop our inner life we will look for other avenues to attain what we most desire....what we are made for. When we self-medicate it is only a help for a short time and in the long run can become just another hurdle that needs to be overcome. The more we seek to escape pain at all cost, the str
We do choose
It is hard for many to understand but we do choose to hate or not to; to judge or not to. It is just that hating and judging come so easy, they are instinctive. As a Christian (and I would say for any who seek to become more loving and human) we are free to develop the greatest of all the spiritual gifts, which is of course love. For many this seems impractical, yet to love and to learn not to judge takes away a great deal of inner suffering, anger and rage. When grace expa
We do choose
There are terms that Christians talk about when they discuss or write about their faith or its content, though the emphasis will vary from one person to another. Comparable with any group, each Christian is unique in their outlook, as well in how they will explain their faith. There is always a continuum in any assembly, boundaries that must be kept if someone is to consider them selves belonging to a specific grouping. So I am going to play with the terms poverty, conversion
It is no small thing to live in hope,
to love when tired,
to be patient in stress,
to pray when feeling empty,
to have faith when life seems absurd,
or suffering deepens.
To trust when fear is present,
to say 'Yes' to it all.
the deeper we dig,
the more we seek to walk the straight path
the freer we are, even when we fail,
we simply get up and continue--Br.MD
