half empty half full / horrible

just in case you dont know, there is this old saying, much like the 'which came first, the chicken or the egg?' saying, that says 'is a cup half empty, or half full?'.

well, this is my idea on it:

if the cup was completely empty, and its got water up to its middle mark but its still being filled, then its HALF FULL. because its in the process of being filled.

if the cup was completely full, and its got water up to its middle mark but is being emptied, then its HALF EMPTY. because its in the process of being emptied.

ive come to the realization that 'gentleman' is just another name for a sissy.

want to hear something horrible? i read in this here book that, in the middle ages, "primative, uneducated women of the poorer classes used all kinds of known and long-forgotten tricks, and deliberately suffered severe injury, to bear disfigured children who could be sold for substantial sums to carnival exhibitors".

........

Alright, but what if the glass is just randomly sitting somewhere and you have no idea if it's in the process of being empty?

What is it then? tongue.gif

I say all glasses are with water halfway to the top are half full..

That's got nothing to do with optimism, BTW..

It's just since a glass was made to be filled with liquid it's doing what it was made for and being full..Glasses aren't produced to be empty. That's merely a waste of purpose; hence; not half empty..

That is horrible, but you don't have to go back as far as the middle ages to see our inhumanity. Read any newspaper.

I agree with the whole water debate.

That's what I always say if someone asks I say:

"Depends, was it full to begin with?" Cos if it was, then it is half empty, but if iit was empty - then naturally it is half full.

I'm not sure what I would say if I saw a glass randomly lying around with only half the amount of liquid in it. I think I would say it was half empty, as I would assume that it had started off as full, cos how often do people only a fill a glass up half way?

Anyway, thats enough of my random ramblings.

Au revoir! x

in that case, i would end the confusion forever by drinking the water and declaring the cup completely empty.

i know, i just wanted to share the horrible-ness.
