The temple in Atlanta

The homeless man I drove into Atlanta yesterday was a long time member of the Krishna movement. Since I have visited the temple a few times over the last 40 years; the last time was probably about 10 years ago….. I asked him if he wanted to go there. He said yes that he would. So I called the temple and they said I could bring him. I had some ‘Krishna’ beads with the green bag that they are kept in and also gave them to him. It was something I picked up on my last visit to the temple. I think I was holding them for him. He seemed happy to receive them. He also asked for a Rosary and I gave him one also. He put the rosary around his neck and seemed content.

He told me that he became a devotee while in prison. I enjoyed talking to him. He seemed to be comfortable being part of both religions and I just listened to him talk about his spiritual path. I got a sense that Jesus is using everything to keep this dear soul, who has a lot of rough edges open to grace in whatever form it is given to him or he can receive it. We are each unique and it is a mistake to try to fit everyone into one mold. Grace is infinite and seeks us all and I can sense this man, who most likely has little time left in this world, is being surrounded with love and protection. I don’t know how long he wall stay with them, but I hope it is peaceful time for him. Being homeless at such an advance age and just out of prison cannot be easy.

So precious

Each soul is so precious to you Lord,

made in your image and likeness,

and I am grateful that I met him.

I pray for all those in his life,

those he loved and helped,

those he caused harm to

and yes Lord for the one he killed,

for all moments are yours,

there is only now for you,

so bless all and heal them,

and bring them home.
