What is beneath the facade?

What is beneath the facade?

I like driving in some parts of Atlanta when driving someone for a doctor’s appointment.  Going to Piedmont Hospital for instance, getting off on North Ave, brings me into a very nice part of Atlanta; one of the many neighborhoods that are older and have lots of trees and foliage all year round….very restful after the speedway, and if at the right time of the day; even quiet.   Lenox road used to be like that, now it is mostly apartment buildings.  They are ok, but do not have the character of the older homes.  There is always something lost when progress happens. Sometimes the trade off may not be worth it.

Buildings are like people, we can make the outside look perfect, but the inside could be left unchecked and allowed to go to ruin.  This morning Fr. Gerard talked about the vision of Jesus, what he saw when he looked upon the powerful, those in charge and who ruled the religion of the day.  When Jesus said we were to become like little children, was speaking to the reality of our ‘insides’ hidden from the sight of others, yet not from God.  Perhaps God has mercy and compassion because he does see so deeply, while myself for instance; I can be harsh and judgmental because I don’t see below what is displayed before me.  Judging others is dangerous business when it comes to their worth before God.
