The forum enigma

I've been neglectful of this forum.

My bad.

A lot of drama as if late. Tiresome. So I'm cocooning, so to speak.

Forums..... I know we aren't allowed to discuss other forums here, but this is not really that.

This is just abstract musings about my experiences out there in forum land.

I settled here, after a bad experience at another well established forum.

I liked it here, but friends I met here, moved on. I followed. We are still friends, and go to forums together. Even now, 8 years later.

We are closer than ever before as friends too. It makes my heart all warm and fuzzy to think about.

After here, there were a series of fun, albeit, weird forums, all of which closed.

I found some very cool people on these forums. Some I still know, some I do not.

That saddens me. I lost track of some very cool people, but what can you do.

I find the mood/personality, of each forum, are as different as people are from one another.

A lot of the same people, frequent all of these places, and yet, they all have very different energies.

Facinating.

From my first stint here, to now, I find this forum has mellowed.

Very laid back now. To me anyway. I like it.

I find it facinating that some people here, still have the same avatar that they did in 2011...

Ciao bellas

I get exactly what you mean, I joined here back in 2005, since then I've come and gone (Multiple Times), just like so many others that I remember.

The web itself is a really strange thing, In many ways it's a birth place, a thriving community, constantly changing shape.
Sometimes it is a graveyard, sometimes permanent, often temporary and as you mentioned, sometimes you see people that you know using other profiles that seem so different. Hard to predict really.

Recently I went back to an online game that I played for years, all 50 people on my friend list have been offline for years, It felt strange to see that, As I read through all the names I remembered all of the times we shared,
The personallity of every single one.

Sometimes it's painful to think about, however there is someting beautiful about it.
There's always something else on the horizon. A new community, a fresh start and maybe a familiar face.

There was this blog site called Thoughts.com that had been around for years.  It's now some type of gambling or casino website (weird and sad).  I met some of the coolest people on there, though.  There was this awesome poet from New Zealand, a guy from Manhattan who wrote really eerie poetry, and this comedian from Las Vegas who used to write jokes for Joan Rivers.  That guy was hilarious!  I miss them all, and wouldn't have a clue how to find them now.

As far as atmosphere though, that site was so fun for such a long time.  But after awhile, it didn't seem to be being moderated very well if at all.  Things got negative and dark really quick and a bunch of weird spam started popping up.  There were people on there who would make the nastiest comments to people's posts that were completely unrelated and insulting.  No one was blocking this stuff or getting rid of it.  It got bad and started not working right before it finally shut down.  It was like it became diseased...

To a degree at least, It sounds like you had a really good time on there. It also sounded like a really interesting community.
As for the whole transformation though, that part is really sad to see. If I remember correctly, UM also had a period where spam was a problem. Luckily Saru and the mods took care of it.

Love the net history and forum talk ^ ^ ^ ^ /\  /\  /\ , so are there other forums that are active and allow people to talk?  I've looked for stats and lists of forums but like a lot of things in the media or internet well its not exactly what you are reading if you know what I mean.

It seems like a lot of them are kind of slow and no ACTIVITY page.  UPDATE: LIKE THIS ONE! very busy at times.
