Hmm good question and I've brought that up to some too but always followed with now don't eeeeeven give me your churchy crap.    Impedancer is right, I mean there was no shortage of zealots and he was a loud one.  Kept pushing it, kept pushing it.

If it wasn't the HeyZeus kid then it would have been another, no shortage of stories the world over.
The Jon Baptist lost his head right?  Romans and others made a big point of things in that time.  It might have been him in the allegory/scenario/parable/metaphor teaching story.
