What to believe about the Coronavirus

It is hard to get a straight scoop on the present health crisis we are going through. It would seem too many that we are going way over the top on this. However, those who bring forth that opinion are more often than not, not in a position of authority, or responsibility, over how this crisis should be attended to.

I think it is best to be cautious and not even a little unconcerned over this issue. From what I have read about Iran, and yes, not sure it is true, is that they are digging mass graves because there are so many deaths.

I am glad that younger people, for the most part, are not in great danger if they do get the virus. Yet, this has only been around a few months and is still moving around the world, if not already in every country.

I have a doctor friend from New Orleans who told me that they are having people die from the virus. However, because they were not tested, their deaths are not attributed to the Coronavirus. They are getting low on ventilators and are telling people not to come in to the hospital unless they are having trouble breathing.

This is something new, no protection, and since we do not know if it can mutate into something more serious I can understand the concern. I guess we are being over-cautious, but we have a large older population. Some monks are in their 90’s and one will be a hundred this year. Loved ones, the elderly, need to be protected.

Of course, most people who get the virus will get a mild case, which has always been stated. However, the death rate is higher than it is from the flu because we have no real defense against it.

So the higher up the leadership ladder one is, it is best to be cautious. If they make the wrong choice they will be blamed. Best to be blamed for overreacting than the opposite extreme.

Hopefully, a vaccine will soon be available, and our herd immunity will be in place as well. It could just become another seasonal issue that will yes, like the flu, take a few thousand lives every year, but we will adapt and no longer think too much about it.

Until the next new ‘thing’ happens.

So stay calm, pray, and take the time to deepen one's faith.—Br.MD
