Not sure this is an NDE experience.  The studies have pretty much showed that no one
explanation can explain the NDE.   It seems to be universal, and be around forever.

Btw: The Ex-Atheist said he was a "True Atheist", and that's how you know his experience has extra credence.

Atheist who have an NDE tend to stop being atheist.  The experience impossible to them according to their belief system, happened, hence their change of mind.

It's a NDE, not a DE.

Actually, when the heart stops, all brain functions ceases within 15 seconds.  Yet, full blown NDE's happen when it should be impossible. 
Yet, if there is an afterlife or not, not sure NDE's will ever prove it, but give people reason to believe.   Those who have the NDE "Know" that there is
an afterlife.   The rest, have faith, or simply hope.

One time I was up over 48 hours. I went to sleep then not long after I was aware of being in a very dark place with this point of light in the distance. Out of wonderment at what this light was I asked it "Is that you God" even though I did not believe in Gods, but it made sense at the time.

The light twinkled to my query at which point I woke up. While awake I felt this overwhelming sense of joy, and I wanted to go outside. While outside everything had a shimmering sheen like aura to it. Most of all everything good, or bad in the world made sense as if I was privy to knowledge.

Then I began to realise I was only drugged in some way in that it was just a mechanism in my mind. I realised the light was just a sunbeam coming through the window hitting my eyelids which my dreamstate misinterpreted. I since studied neurology, and what I went through was a surge of Dopamine from my altered state of sleep deprivation. I then found out through studying ancient history that neurochemistry is responsible for many reports of NDE, and even the Holy Ghost.

There was the case of a woman named Pam Reynolds who was having brain surgery to prevent an aneurism.

She claimed to identify an instrument the doctor had while under anesthesia that looked like an electric toothbrush.

Her doctor showed the instrument and he called it a Miter drill that's used for drilling in the skull. It did look similar

to an electric toothbrush. She claimed to be out of her body when she saw it. Pam Reynolds case - Wikipedia

Atheist shocked by NDE. 

 

They always are.  In fact, solid believers report serious shock and amazement.

 

It's an experience beyond words, destined to be paradigm shifting for a creature with such limited perceptual modeling apparatus of waking consciousness.

I am not discounting this mans experience but here’s an above link to people having NDE in India and seeing Hindi gods. So as an atheist if I’m expected to believe in bible Jesus as real than bible Jesus believers is it to much to ask you to believe in Hindi gods?

Very true Mark I also don’t think that NDEs can prove that life of any form after death exists, it all comes down to faith and nothing else until the time comes.
