Let me tell you about the spooky island of Coron. You are probably wondering how I obtained all of this information.  Simple, I am part Filipino, and I have a dozen Filipino cousins on Facebook that I communicate with. My mother Rosemarie is a Causing. The Causing(s) originate from Iloilo. I am also related to other Filipino families like the Tanzo(s); Guyo(s); Soyo(s), etc. One of my most cherished cousins is Jocelyn Causing, a world traveler and entrepreneur. My uncle Jose Causing is a former Merchant Marine, and he is the first one that told me about his visit to the Island of Coron.  You are probably wondering if I have ever been there.  My answer is: "No".  But, maybe one day, who knows?  Thankfully, I have many cousins I can consult about the haunting activities and high strangeness at the Island of Coron. Sources like from family member Alex G. Paman who has wrote the book: Filipino Ghost Stories.

WWII GHOSTS
Now let's get into the nitty gritty stories about the Island of Coron. The locals says that this island has about 3 portals in which you can enter and find yourself in another dimension. Strange creatures come out of the portal, and we will get into that later.  Let's talk about the ghostly activities of the Island.  Legend has it that Coron Island is haunted by the spirits of those who perished during the World War II battles that took place there. The echoes of the past can still be felt as visitors report hearing eerie sounds of battle and encountering ghostly apparitions of soldiers. Some locals have reported seeing phantom artillery shells zoom through the sky. They now have a tour called the Coron Island Super Ultimate Tour. One of my cousins went on this tour and absolutely loved it. Very informative and a lot of areas to take a spectacular photo.  The list of destinations for this tour are Barracuda Lake, Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Twin Peaks Coral Garden, Beach 91, Balinsasayaw Reef, and CYC Beach. All but Balinsasayaw and CYC Beach are located on the coast of Coron Island.

SLOP OR LABAY
If you are a scuba diver, you may want to check out the WWII Shipwrecks.  You will find the remains of Japanese warships, sunk during World War II. This area is known as Skeleton Bay. Divers have said that these wrecks carry a lot of negative energy that sends shivers down your spine. There are many secret caves on the Island. Some of the caves have ancient carvings. Tour guides will tell you there are many secrets in these caves. There are depths of the caves that have never been explored. A creature called the Slop (by Americans) and Labay by Filipinos have been seen coming out of the caves. This creature has yellow skin, fat belly, sharp claws, 2 feet high, one long middle fang that hangs from his or her mouth, 4 protruding horns, bright red slanted eyes. Some locals have seen this creature eating a mammal and has very sloppy manners. Locals tell tales of strange lights in the sky, possible UAP sightings around the island, possible lost treasure, and encounters with cryptids that are either benevolent or mischievous.

Some of the cryptids that have been seen by locals, besides the Slop are the following:

ALAN: A mysterious race of small, deformed half-human, half-avian creatures.  The Alan have been seen usually after a UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) or USO (Unidentified Submerged Object) sighting. One local claims that they saw 3 Alan(s) working alongside a tall white skinned humanoid alien. The Alan(s) appeared to be taking orders from the tall white skinned alien.

AMOMONGO:  A hairy, wild, man-sized ape with long nails that terrorizes solitary villages. Locals say that in ancient times, the Amomongo would try and steal their children from villages. There were a few times, in which they were successful. A tourist made claim that they saw a Amomongo come out of a portal at the island of Coron.

ASWANG: Shape-shifting creatures that many believe is a Skinwalker. Locals says that it can change from a blood-sucking vampire, to a man-eating weredog. They even say that it can look like an evil eyed witch, a seductive sexy witch or even a flesh eating ghoul.

LAMPONG: A one-eyed white deer that has been seen by one of the caves on the island. Some locals believe that if you encounter the Lampong, good fortune will fall upon you and your family.

MAMELEU: A giant, hairy, man-eating bat. Locals have seen 3 Mameleu fly out of a cave.

MAHOMANAY: During UFO sightings, sometimes an elf type creature with pointy ears, fair skin and long black hair are seen. Some locals say that the creatures are either handsome if they are male, or beautiful if they are female.  The male Mahomanay have a reputation of abducting human females and taking them to their world. The abducted human females are never seen again. The female Mahomanay have red skin, and some locals refer them as the Tamalanhig.

MANANGILAW or MANANG HILAW: A giant, man-eating crocodile that is seen swimming in the waters near the island.

MANTAHUNGAL: A giant, man-eating bird has been seen a few times flying over the island. Some tourists believe this creature is the Thunderbird that has been seen in the United States. This cryptid has the reputation of being a man-eater, but there are no reported sightings where the creature has ever abducted a human, or eaten a human.

ONGLO: A giant, man-eating fish seen in the waters of the island.

TIKBALANG: This creature was sighted near the island in 1939 by 4 locals. They say the creature is a tall, bony humanoid creature with the head and hooves of a horse and disproportionately long limbs, to the point that its knees reach above its head when it squats down. The locals said it came out of a cave.

PONGO: A giant, man-eating ape seen a few times on the island. Again, we have "man-eating". There are no reports that a giant ape has been seen eating a man. It is believed that "man-eating" is a way to describe certain cryptids to scare the children.

KULARIUT: An elusive creature with big eyes, a white beard, and black fur.  Seen only one time by 2 locals in 1964. Again, reported to have came out of a cave. Many locals believe that the caves hide a portal to another world.

And there you have it. The Island of Coron is a very beautiful place, and is filled with stories of the strange and bizarre. The Island of Coron is truly a place to explore for its gorgeous landscapes and out-of-this-world mystique.
