What causes thermal expansion? Come on, you've been studying this for decades (so you claim) Oceans don't just get warmer without a reason And if you agree there's thermal expansion, then maybe you explain why it's not causing more coastal flooding? (Although you might want to check out the reports from last week's record high tides and widespread flooding around the UK coast before you do so; maybe stop over and see the effect of record high tides in Tuvalu whilst you're at it) -

I’m going to ask you to consider the perspective of the mountain climber. He or she has fallen in love with the thrill and challenge of high altitude climbing. Why? Because it’s there. You know the old saying about climbing Everest? Question: How do you climb Mount Everest? Answer: One step at a time. Yeah. But to be able to climb all those steps takes a tremendous amount of training, determination, effort and luck. But, let’s say you make it. You climb Mount Everest! Then what? What are you going to do for the rest of your life, after you have that…which could be compared? Im just saying. That must be a tremendous honor and sense of accomplishment, but at the same time..kind of a source of pain as well, knowing that you can never do that again. -

Relax don't get your dander up, I haven't stuck to anything , I do not know if Goldman was 100% innocent, and don't know oj DD the deed I've considered it could have been his son, I wasn't there I didn't watch the trial very closely. The thing find weird is you are so quick with evidence at hand to say oj is 100% guilty yet with far more evidence against BOM you howl he's innocent of every crime he has committed yet you call others " idiot" very weird indeed. -

Indian scientists develops sustainable hydrogel that removes microplastics from water
Ajay0 replied to Ajay0's topic in Science and Technology
As per the article, the hydrogel could last for up to five cycles of microplastic removal without significant loss of efficacy. Once it has outlived its use, the hydrogel could be repurposed into carbon nanomaterials for removing heavy metals like hexavalent chromium from polluted water. It is a recent innovation that has not reached production mode, so costs are not easy to determine. -

LOL at this graffiti (in Iran) encouraging Israel to bomb Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s home. Five bucks says there isn't one Israeli who wouldn't want to do it. -
In what it describes as a significant advancement , the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) Tuesday said it has successfully developed a lightweight Carbon-Carbon (C-C) nozzle for rocket engines, marking a breakthrough in rocket engine technology. https://www.business-standard.com/india-news/isro-makes-light-weight-nozzle-for-rocket-engines-terms-it-breakthrough-124041600393_1.html

I appreciate the compliment on the story idea. Thank you. I was working on a lengthy response in a request for you to extrapolate, but decided not to follow through. It got me thinking about deeper ways to consider the concept, which is great inspiration. Feel free to extrapolate, though I suspect it was a bit tongue in cheek. Thanks again. I really do appreciate the feedback.

It's meant to be funny not mean. It's just at odds with the thread title which made it funny for being posted as opposed to being funny. -

Oooh, some interesting developments in Iran: ‘Hit them Israel’: Graffiti painted on Iranian buildings voices support for Jerusalem Amid the unprecedented direct conflict between Israel and Iran, Hebrew media has reported on some graffiti that has appeared within the Islamic Republic in recent days, following its largescale attack on Israel, which voices support for the Jewish state. One declares: “Hit them, Israel. Iranians are behind you.” https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/hit-them-israel-graffiti-painted-on-iranian-buildings-voices-support-for-jerusalem/ -

Kittens Are Jerks replied to Kittens Are Jerks's topic in Israel, Palestine and the Middle-East
The real problem is Iran. Everyone knows it. A full scale conflict with Iran will get everyone in the neighbourhood involved, and things might not go the way Israel wants them to. If Israel wasn't so concerned with fostering and maintaining good relations with the rest of its neighbours, it would have struck back at Iran that very same night. But I understand and agree with your point. -

"The storming of NatCon is a reminder that for all the talk of a resurgent right-wing authoritarianism in Europe, the central threat to liberty and democratic rights comes from the technocratic elites and their stage army of activists. It comes from those who are literally sending in the police to shut down free debate, free assembly and the free exchange of ideas. Whether you’re left-wing, right-wing, conservative or progressive, anyone who believes in liberty, who believes in the best of European values, needs to oppose this sinister censorship." https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/04/16/the-sinister-censorship-of-natcon-brussels/ -
Pro-Palestinian protesters burn American flag in NYC, chant ‘death to America’
Kittens Are Jerks replied to docyabut2's topic in United States and the Americas
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that targeting someone on the basis of race, gender, etc., is a separate and distinct crime federally, but that it's not a separate crime at the state level. Instead, the states have 'sentencing enhancements' whereby if a crime was motivated by hatred toward a protected group, then the punishment for that crime would be 'enhanced'. If that is indeed the case, then there's really no redundancy at the state level. Or is there? I really don't see how hate laws are redundant anyway. For one thing, the victim's race, gender, sexual orientation, etc., is the reason for the crime in the first place. Furthermore, activity motivated by bias or animus toward protected groups can impact not just individuals, but the targeted groups as well, thereby destabilizing communities. So if anything, federal hate laws not only add clarity and substance to existing laws, they also ensure that the punishment better reflects the crime. Perhaps more importantly, they enable the feds to step in when they think states have erred in their judgments. If only all your posts were like this one lol. -

Sydney church stabbing: crowds clash with police after bishop stabbed during mass
Ajay0 replied to Still Waters's topic in Other World News
Yes, it appears to be that. The attacker had called out in Arabic during the incident that the priest had abused his religion and prophet. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/apr/16/sydney-church-stabbing-attack-firebrand-preacher-wakeley-ntwnfb Imho, historical memories of the Assyrian genocide during the early part of the twentieth century by Ottoman forces and Kurds could partly explain the existing tensions between the Assyrian Christian and Muslim communities in this area. In such hotspots of ethnic and religious tensions, there should be more police intelligence work, patrolling and surveillance to nip any issues in the bud.- 32 replies

When my Dad was in Greece, the one thing he thought really interesting was….jetties, once on the sea were tens of kilometres inland. He was marvelling at how the geology had changed….we think of sea level rise but in fact, the opposite, silting up of inlets by sand or land. Drying up of land near the sea. Even Troy is inland way more than it used to be, same as the Indus Valley, all these areas were reduced by silting up of the waterways. It may have even contributed to the fall of the Bronze Age. -
