  1. The sharpest knives available are made of either steel or ceramic, both of which are man-made materials that must be forged in furnaces under extreme temperatures. Now, researchers have developed a potentially more sustainable way to make sharp knives: using hardened wood. The method, presented October 20th, 2021, in the journal Matter, makes wood 23 times harder, and a knife made from the material is nearly three times sharper than a stainless-steel dinner table knife. https://scitechdaily.com/scientists-make-hardened-wooden-knife-thats-3x-sharper-than-stainless-steel/

  3. The European Hornet Moth (Sesia apiformis) looks terrifying at first glance, but its uncanny resemblance to a giant wasp is just an elaborate disguise meant to keep predators at bay. The hornet moth is a prime example of Batesian mimicry, a form of mimicry where a harmless species has evolved to imitate the look and/or behavior of a harmful species in order to protect itself from predators. In this case, the yellow and back combination, the shape of the abdomen, and of the see-through wings do a great job of creating the illusion of a menacing wasp. It’s only on closer inspection that you notice the insect’s lack of a clearly defined, wasp-like waste, a furry body, and two uncharacteristically small eyes. Despite the above-mentioned differences between actual giant wasps and hornet moths, telling the two apart is very tough, because the moth not only mimics the hornet’s look but actually has the hornet’s rather jerky flight when disturbed, to make its disguise even more convincing. https://www.odditycentral.com/animals/this-giant-wasp-is-just-a-harmless-moth-in-disguise.html

  6. There's also natural alarm calls if you know what to listen for. The time I learned about it was when my pals made sudden changes to our usual paths deep in the jungle halfway saying there's this or that may be up ahead. When I asked how he knew, the answer was the "birds" or the "monkeys" or something... The worse thing is when you suddenly notice everything is suddenly quiet, that's a sign of some large predator is around, most likely the tiger. The funniest lesson learned was the time when pointed out something along the path and said "snake, big one" and carried on walking like nothing out of the ordinary. I of course tried to find the snake where he pointed at when he asked "what are you looking for? " Then he taught me while laughing hard, "you look for where the signs a snake leave behind, you don't want to suddenly see it in front of you. If you try to see a snake by looking for a snake, you'll never see one... That's how they hide, by not looking like a snake... " I miss those days in the deep jungle. ~

President Joe Biden issued a memo on Friday that said that most of the files will now be withheld until December 15 of next year, with some due to be released later this year. The memo said that the pandemic has had a "significant impact" on the National Archives and Records Administration's ability to review whether redactions continue to meet the "statutory standard." The agency said it needed additional time to research the material and "maximize the amount of information released." Report at Yahoo

  11. One of the youngest planets ever found around a distant infant star has been discovered by an international team of scientists led by University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa faculty, students, and alumni. Thousands of planets have been discovered around other stars, but what sets this one apart is that it is newly-formed and can be directly observed. The planet, named 2M0437b, joins a handful of objects advancing our understanding of how planets form and change with time, helping shed new light on the origin of the Solar System and Earth. The in-depth research was recently published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The researchers estimate that the planet is a few times more massive than Jupiter, and that it formed with its star several million years ago, around the time the main Hawaiian Islands first emerged above the ocean. The planet is so young that it is still hot from the energy released during its formation, with a temperature similar to the lava erupting from Kīlauea Volcano. https://phys.org/news/2021-10-astronomers-infant-planet.html

Locals said they saw the ghostly woman prowling the area on October 15 while shouting “ay mis hijos” meaning “oh my children”. One resident filmed the woman’s antics just moments before she was reportedly shot dead with several bullets by a scared neighbor. 13. A rare and sometimes deadly bacteria has been found in an aromatherapy spray product sold at Walmart, according to U.S. health officials. The product is linked with a mysterious outbreak of the bacterial disease melioidosis, which sickened four people and two of the four died in the U.S. this year. Officials searched the homes of the four patients, looking for imported products that may have been the source of the infection. And they've found a likely suspect: The aromatherapy spray product, called "Better Homes & Gardens Lavender & Chamomile Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones," was found in the home of one of the ill melioidosis patients, and the product tested positive for B. pseudomallei, according to a statement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). https://www.livescience.com/aromatherapy-spray-melioidosis-deadly-bacteria

  17. Have you watched the new James Bond film and thought it was a little too far-fetched? Well, read the story of Henry Coombe-Tennant's life and think again. Born in Neath in 1913, Henry was a decorated World War Two hero, and worked for both the Special Operations Executive and MI6. In later life, in a dramatic departure from the traditional spy persona, he became a Benedictine monk. His fascinating story has been charted by historian and author Bernard Lewis in a new biography, Wales' Unknown Hero: Soldier, Spy, Monk - The Life of Henry Coombe-Tennant. 20. Social media users have mocked Ohio after its launch of a number plate to mark the first motorised flight by the Wright brothers in 1903 crash landed. The US state's new design, unveiled by Governor Mike DeWine, sported a banner attached to the plane that boasted Ohio was the "Birthplace of Aviation". But the banner, which should have been trailing behind the plane, was actually attached to its front. The state quickly put out a statement acknowledging the mistake. It has since issued a corrected version of the number plate, with the banner now firmly attached to the correct end of the plane. But that hasn't stopped internet users poking fun at the unfortunate designers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-59008039

  21. The odds are...millions of people have this product in their homes. We know this because of Walmart's purchasing/selling policies. In order for you to get your product in Walmart, at least 70% of your business must be derived from other places. They do this because they don't want to put you out of business if they decide to suddenly drop your product, which, they do frequently because, if it doesn't meet whatever their minimum sales requirements are...they will not reorder.

  25. A nice BBC article about Göbekli Tepe 16th August 2021 An immense mystery older than Stonehenge Reshaping previous ideas on the story of civilisation, Gobekli Tepe in Turkey was built by a prehistoric people 6,000 years before Stonehenge. When German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt first began excavating on a Turkish mountaintop 25 years ago, he was convinced the buildings he uncovered were unusual, even unique. Atop a limestone plateau near Urfa called Gobekli Tepe, Turkish for "Belly Hill", Schmidt discovered more than 20 circular stone enclosures. The largest was 20m across, a circle of stone with two elaborately carved pillars 5.5m tall at its centre. https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20210815-an-immense-mystery-older-than-stonehenge

After the discovery of a hoard deposit at Zawichost-Trójcy earlier this year, researchers led by Monika Bajka, and Dr Marek Florek from UMCS, returned to the site to survey areas where single coins from the 11th century had been found. The previous study discovered a hoard consisting of 1880 Piast coins, 5 cross deniers, 1 denarius of Bolesław the Szczodre, 2 denars of Bolesław the Wrymouth, 629 denarii of Władysław the Exile (mainly type IV, with an eagle and a hare) and 615 Bolesław Kędzierzawy denarii (types I-IV). https://www.heritagedaily.com/2021/10/second-treasure-hoard-found-in-zawichost-trojcy/141747?amp

  28. You know I am Buddhist Docy, according to my spirituality there is no Heaven or Hell. Our existence is part of wheel known as the Dharma Wheel. We are born we live our lives and we die then we are born again in a repeating cycle. The purpose of this rebirth ( Reincarnation ) is so that we can grow and improve ourselves until someday we are worthy of the next journey ( Enlightenment or Nirvana ). Once we reach Nirvana our rebirth ends and we are beings of pure energy. Now, I am not an experienced Buddhist and there are many parts of the Buddhist Philosophy I still do not understand. Just like you and your question above, does Heaven Exist. Well the only thing that matters is that you believe that it and Jesus both exist. Your spirituality gives you strength when you need it, and there is nothing more valuable than that or more important than. Don't ever give up your beliefs no matter what anyone else says, your spirituality is yours and no one or nothing can take that away from you. People as you know ridicule people for being spiritual and that must just be over looked, because people always redicule what they can't understand. You cant let anyone effect your beliefs, because those who try have nothing to turn too when they are in need and find comfort in trying to make others unhappy like them. The answer to your question about there being a heaven or in my case reincarnation we will just have to wait and see. But until it's our time to go our faith in our spirituality will continue to give us strength and if there is nothing at the end we will never know it, so there is no reason to lose faith in your beliefs. Docy, it sounds like your having a sad time. Maybe go to Church, or contact family from all the posts you make on this forum I believe your a good person with a good heart. All I can say is your Spirituality has given you the strength to come this far, it has comforted you when nothing else did there is no reason to doubt it now! Peace Docy and take Care you know the answer, you have obviously always known.

  33. A man and his garden were "splattered in a very unpleasant way" when human waste was dropped from a plane, a council meeting has heard. Speaking to The Royal Borough Of Windsor & Maidenhead's aviation forum, councillor Karen Davies said she was "horrified" to hear of the incident. She explained how his "whole garden, and garden umbrellas, and him" were all "covered". The dumping happened "fairly centrally" to Windsor in mid-July. Plane toilets store sewage in special tanks, but their contents are normally disposed of once the plane has landed. "I know a number of incidents happen every year with frozen sewage from planes, but this wasn't frozen and his whole garden was splattered in a very unpleasant way," she said. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-58968692

  34. yikes...I'm gonna get some flack for this, but I think Chappelle is better Although Richard Pryor and George Carlin certainly set the stage for comedians like Chappelle this comes at a convenient time because I've actually been watching The Closer, Sticks and Stones and Deep in the Heart of Texas and haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time the dude is a comedian, he makes people laugh for a living. he jokes about societal issues that people don't like talking about. yes, he makes fun of transgenders and EVERYONE else. he has an awesome story about a transgender woman he befriended who ended up killing herself, The Closer is worth watching for that alone. search for The Closer 'Daphne', if curious. for anyone throwing stones, actually listen to it before drawing conclusions

After many years of reading and trial and error, I got pretty good at it, but in all honesty I was a rank amateur compared to the big cue makers. I made around 400 cues over many years, if you like maybe tomorrow I can post some addition cues I made. Thanks again.
