Give me a break. You are wrong, skeptics are not saying that there isn't intelligent life somewhere else in the universe, skeptics are just saying that they are not necessarily visiting us and there is no real proof for it since 90% of it is hoaxed, there other 5% is misunderstood, and the other 5% is the one that really makes you think. In some cases yes they are hoaxes. But in my opinion skeptics or debunkers if you will hold no credibility and their not helpfull. Because when you take the credible cases of ufo sightings like the ones from members of the navy , airforce, Or even commercial airline pilots who have been escorted or tailed by large ufo's and almost had mid air collisions get written off as venus, or a comet, Or weather ballons. Skeptics would refuse the evidence even if it came up and bit them on the ass. Edited August 17, 2007 by spikeman25

Teej Posted August 17, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) The conclusion to the 2nd video was ridiculous. "There are so many mysteries that prove the existence of God." I'm sick of this argument that if we don't understand it, then it must be God, and I'm one who actually believes to some degree in God. Whatever your beliefs, it's an entirely fallacious statement. No it is NOT entirely possible since the odds are against it, we have already found a planet with the conditions to habour life now we just need to find out if it has life on it or not. And we still don't know if water and oxigen are the main ingredients for life since that is only a theory. It ludicrous to say were the only intelligent life in the universe, Since the universe is infinite and it still continues to grow. And like i pointed out a while back, Mankind has only been around for close to 20 thousand years and we haven't even been outside our own backyard in the universe and still don't have the capability to travel outside our galaxy and some people are sitting back and saying were it? There's no way way, Because i believe their are lots of advanced civilizations out there. Why couldn't there be? As old as the universe is and as infinite i think it would be very arrogant to say the least to say were the only intelligent advanced beings in the scheme of things, But when in reality were probably cavemen compared to other civilizations. And we still don't know if water and oxigen are the main ingredients for life since that is only a theory. For all we know, this is the only planet where everything was right for life to arise. I know its unlikely but it IS possible. But in truth, we only know about carbon based life forms, we have no idea what else could be out there. Wrong Woah so hostile. I love the idea that there is, somewhere in this galaxy, an intelligent looking at our humble Sun and asking the same question we ask. But you have to remember that wishful thinking doesnt make it true. I think it was Carl Sagan who said that intelligent life on earth was this great thing that might never have appeared before in the universe, and after we're gone it might never appear again. As for the universe being infinite, the evidence is strongly against that.
drakonwick Posted August 17, 2007 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2007 When it comes to these understandings about our universe we are completely lost. This is so far beyond us that it is incomprehensible. If we are still around in a million years from now we may still be arriving at the same conclusions! Who is to say? We may never have the technology to find life on other planets. There might be things out there far more dangerous than we can even begin to comprehend! But, we will never know until we reach that point! That is if we ever even get that far.

Ad yet there are still skeptics who say there isn't other intelligent life in the universe, And there is about an estimated 300 billion galaxies. Give me a break. I don't think this is the case. In the world of science being a skeptic is not a bad thing. Skeptic does not mean you don't believe there is no possibility of life in the universe, only that you until there is that conclusive evidence you can not say for sure. Uh-Oh Posted August 17, 2007 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2007 I like these kinds of videos. They really get your mind working. It's actually kind of creepy to see these, and then wonder how many other planets could sustain life. Then thinking of how long those civilizations have been around, how advanced are they? What do they look like? Are they like us? If we ever somehow found each other, what would happen? That's the terrifying question for me. I've seen too many movies where aliens try to take over and kill us. It's pretty cool to think about the future too. Could we someday live on one of these other planets? Of course, there's no proof that there is life out there, but it's such an interesting thing to think about.

Picturesque Orion Posted August 19, 2007 #21 Share Posted August 19, 2007 For all we know, this is the only planet where everything was right for life to arise. I know its unlikely but it IS possible. But in truth, we only know about carbon based life forms, we have no idea what else could be out there. That is the problem, we don't know, we don't know if there really is life out there or not, all we know is about this planet, we haven't being here so long to see what other kinds of elements can be an ingredient for life, we don't know, the unknown sorrounds us, all we can do now is face the odds and the odds say that life is somewhere else, maybe not intelligent, maybe nothing big, maybe just bacteria, but it's there, until we really know if life is out there or not, until something prooves that life is out there or isn't there, we have to face the odds and keep exploring and researching and not say this with such a secure position: It IS entirely possible that this is the only planet with life on it in the entire universe. Those sentences have completely different meanings. He's absolutely right in saying that the life on Earth might be the only life in the universe, it's entirely possible. Probable? No, but that's not the point. It's not arrogant, it's a logical truth. Until we know there is other life, we can't say for sure that we aren't alone. The universe is too big to be just for us, Which is more wishfull thinking than their being other intelligent life which is a high probability. Don't try to put words in my mouth.
