Government Over-Controlling Again!

fearfulone

The U.S. Government is now targeting people "carrying almanacs" as possible terror suspects. This is crap in my opinion, they are continuously looking for reasons to "bring people in" and interrogate whoever the hell they want. Ridiculous!

That's really messed up...people use an almanac to study. disgust.gif And now that everyone is talking about it, if there are any terrorists they're going to know not to let anyone see the almanac.

especially if the books are annotated in suspicious ways

How can you use and almanac supiciously? blink.gif Or am I missing something here?

I am so tired of people putting our Government down for trying to protect us!

Fearfulone... you say that it is "crap" and "they" (the government I presume) are continuously looking for reasons to "bring people in" and interrogate whoever the they want"..... well....

It is people like you who would also be mad if the Government wasn't doing anything to protect us and if something did happen...you would blame the Government again and say <in a whiney voice> "oh.. but the Government didn't warn us... they didn't tell us what to look out for"

- And are also are the same people whining that the Government isn't giving out enough information on what is going on....

I think the Government is doing a great job... well obviously... there haven't been any terrorists attacks since 9/11 on U.S. soil... but the threat is still there... and it is up to our Government to share every lead that is out there ... to help us be prepared and on alert.

And AnimangaBloodThorn - I see your point where you state that now that that fact that people carrying Almancas could be considered suspicious has been made public, and that if there is something to this, the terrorists could change their strategy. ... I have thought about this myself. But you know how the Media is when they get a hold of some information... they go wild with it.

Here is another link... just in case you are "missing something".. maybe it will explain it here for you better!

I say good for the Government..... I know that if they detain me, then they have reason, and if I am clean, then I have nothing to worry about..

Sorry, but to keep things under control, there has to be a certain level of comfortablity lost. Just the way it goes down. If you don't like it, there are other countries, a lot more relaxed in their terrorism approach, that you could move to... Bye now!

Nxt2Hvn: before you judge and throw out all these presumptions on what i would do if were to be attacked again, lemme get a couple points straight with you. 9/11 was the most horrible thing that happened to this country and i put a very minut amount of blame on our government for not preventing that (have i heard the conspiracy theories that our govt actually was in charge of the whole thing? yes, i choose to believe in a better common good in man). A lot of the bills and stuff that have been passed since 9/11 are very ridiculous in taking away civil rights. Why should the US govt have the right to tap anyone's phone lines without a warrant? Isn't the ammendment on search and seizure important anymore? Why are people being targeted? No offense to people of arabic background, but it seems like a lot of people are being "interrogated" that have nothing to do with any terrorist group or action (i've known a few). No offense, but I, my friend, am a very patriotic and proud American. I put the 9/11 stickers, flags, we will remember signs all over my car. When we went to Iraq, i put "I support my troops and President" on my back window of the car and got very many dirty looks for it. So listen, I WILL NOT WHINE, WILL NOT COMPLAIN WHEN THE US GOV'T ACTUALLY GETS SOMETHING RIGHT when it comes to crap like looking SUSPICIOUSLY AT PEOPLE WITH ALAMANACS!!!!!! You know during Christmas eve and Christmas day, when the US was feeding us this crap through the news that they spoiled a terrorist plot in france, the french authorities said that they had found after interviews and intelligence, they found no credible threat?! now trust me, i'm not one to take the French side, cause i despise that gov't for how they've just screwed us in the rear, but seriously, the US Govt lies and exploits the truth to get what they want, and in the case of the ALMANACS, they want to pull people in for no reason but to harrass those who are on their track to finding out something the US gov't doesnt want them to find out!

Hehehee, I knew you would, girl! It is true....

I am just sick and tired of hearing the complaints.. So, very tired... Like you said, the minute something goes wrong, the Gov't would be blamed... Unfortunately, we have to deal with this, until it is stable enough to not be an issue. Right now, there is a hot bed of terrorists, looking for vengeance. I would rather there be a proactive approach rather than a wait and see.

Even if someone is brought in, and looked into for possible terrorism, the Gov't is not going to plant evidence, or keep anyone unneccessarily. They have too many REAL threats to look at, to waste time where there is none.

I commend you for standing up for what you believe in (but from now on could you please put breaks in your paragraphs... your long posts are really hard to read)...

Anyway...it is a very sad thing ... people like you not believing in our government... you say you have heard the conspiracy theories that govt actually was in charge of the whole thing.... well you said it yourself.... "conspiracy theories"... and that is just what they are...

And when it comes to civil rights.... I believe the Government should have to right to tap whatever phone line they see fit... if it will help keep me and my country safe.

And your statement "Isn't the ammendment on search and seizure important anymore" ... my friend have you not noticed that times have changed?... and as times change... laws must change also!

I am glad that you are "patriotic" and that you "support our troops and President"... I also commend you on that!

There are a lot of things that the Government doesn't share and for security reasons can't share with the public... that is just the way it is and has to be! I am sure that we are close to terrorist attacks almost on a daily basis... but could you imagine the panic if it was nationally broadcasted?

So you see "my friend"... the Government is doing their job... whether you see that they are or not... and you ranting your ignorance just proves it.

Peace,

Nxt2Hvn

Sorry but if you believe in that then you do not believe what the constitution was founded for. For you to say that is saying that you are willing to throw the constitution out the window and any ammendment that it has ratified.

And yes i am unfortunately the type that does not trust any government, do i follow the laws, do i follow democracy, am i proud to be in this country above others because of the freedoms we have? yes is the answer to all, but i still believe that the gov't abuses some of its power that the people have given it. Call me a gov't skeptic if you wish, but my father WAS involved in the Solidarity movement in Poland and we had to flee our homeland because he was involved in overthrowing a communist gov't that threw him in jail 5 times, had ak47's pointed at his head and threatened him and my entire family.

That my friend, would make a skeptic of anyone! wink2.gif

There is nothing wrong with questioning your Gov't. A healthy amount of skepticism is normal. No Gov't has clean hands. But, when it comes to the issue at hand, which you started here.. About the whole Almanac thing. Sorry, but if the people that be, designate a need for people to be looked at closely, because of an Almanac, then they have their reasons. I imagine it is quite hard to formulate an outline of what to look for, because there are so many things that terrorists could be doing. So, if they say Almanac's tie into that, then it is A ok with me.

But, everyone should certainly question things. If you don't like the way things are headed, then I am sorry, but I blame the changing times.

When the Constitution was originally drawn up, they had no idea what 200 plus years in the future would look like. Unfortunalty, there were no fortune tellers on hand the day the Constitution was signed.

Well at least I see where you hostility comes from...

my father WAS involved in the Solidarity movement in Poland and we had to flee our homeland because he was involved in overthrowing a communist gov't that threw him in jail 5 times, had ak47's pointed at his head and threatened him and my entire family.

Again ... like comparing apples to oranges... I am sorry for what happened to your family in the past.... sure it put a bad taste in your mouth... but this is a whole different ball game.

You say that you are proud to be in the United States and for all the freedoms we have....?..... well because of the Government you have those rights and freedoms. And I hate to say it... but Reese said it best...

If you don't like it, there are other countries, a lot more relaxed in their terrorism approach, that you could move to

And to add to that... if you think you could do a better job ... why not get you a government job yourself... you seem to think you have all of the answers.

And I do believe in what the constitution was founded for... and I said nothing of the sort for throwing out the constitution... but facts are facts... and sometimes the Government needs to do whatever it has to do for safety sake... (you must not think too much for your safety.. and that's your choice... but I kind of like the idea that the Government will go to certain measures for my safety)... Hey - to each his own!! wink2.gif

It is called profiling. No one knows what criteria are being used for the profiling.. Obviously, if this whole Almanac thing is seriously one of the things being looked at, there must be some connection.

Profiling isn't too easy to do. You have to consider every aspect. Just the same as the profile for serial killers, arsonists, etc.

My 2 cents, I may be safely ignored...

I'm pro Tax Cuts.

I'm pro ousting the Taliban.

I'm pro ousting Saddam.

I'm pro "War on Terror" to a certain extent.

I'm pro catching Osama.

I'm anti Patriot Act.

The laws on the books would have prevented 9/11 if they had been enforced. Now we have new laws with new "unintended" consequences.

More laws = less liberty.

If the people in those planes had known they were to be used as a bomb on the world trade center, they would have pulled a Beemer. People nowadays will probably go Beemer on anyone who tries to hijack a plane. What's with all the new laws? If nobody flies on AA because they had lax security, you can bet they would start beefing up security so they don't lose the revenue. Why do we need gov't flunkies appointed to airport security? My stolen tax dollars hard at work.

Instead of people taking care of themselves they want big daddy gov't.

I don't whine when we get attacked. I've been beat up countless times. I don't complain that the gov't didn't protect us. I would complain if the gov't didn't retaliate. We can't stop all attacks. I don't think it's possible. We live in a world when an earthquake, or tornado, or scorpion sting can happen. Mean, devious people are out there. I do not want to be in a glass box for my protection. I feel a responsibility to protect family, my community, and my country because I'm a responsible adult.

There are socialists and communists in the gov't. Lawmakers. They are the ones dragging this country down "for the children" "for your safety" yeah right. It's about power and control. Government, by it's very nature tries to aquire power. The constitution was written to specifically state what power the Federal has and they crossed the line many many years ago and they absorb more power with every new law. That power belongs to the people. You and me. Not some carrier politician. What makes senators such experts? Nothing, we give them consent to make decisions they have no right to make and know nothing about. We? Sorry, the socialist majority in power.

Some people like to be taken care of like children, but it's offensive to me.

"Daddy, may I buy an alminac? I pwomise I won't be a terriorist."

Now I don't want to be seen with an alminac.

I took pilot lessons a few years ago. I could do everything but land well. I also happen to "look" a little arabic. The looks from aquaintences and the jokes from friends get old fast. Now, wonder if I'll get pulled over if I have an alminac sitting on my dashboard?

Times change yes. But the spirit of the constitution, the intent has been defiled. Has common sense, common courtisy, basic human dignity, love of life and liberty... Have those things changed? Is decency no longer decent? Do I trust the Government? To a point yes, and to a point no. Either way if I want to be with my family I won't make any waves, so I may be safely ignored.
