Europeans Ratify Solidarity with Cuba

Havana, September 4 (acn) Members of the 47th contingent of the 'Jose Marti' European Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba representing 17 countries ratified on Monday their support of the Cuban Revolution during a ceremony held in Havana to pay tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.

Zeta Katamperi, a member of the executive council of the Cuba-Greece Solidarity and Friendship Association, spoke to ACN and highlighted the international significance of socialism on the Caribbean island as a guide for other peoples.

Katamperi explained that their presence in Cuba also aims at expressing their rejection of the financial, commercial and economic blockade imposed on the island by many US administrations for almost 50 years and which has cost the Cuban people more than 82 billion dollars and has been repeatedly condemned by the UN General Assembly.

For his part, Domenico Toscano, of the Cuba-Italy Friendship Association in Fosacesia, demanded the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who have been unjustly imprisoned in the United States for almost nine years.

Toscano noted that Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, were detained in 1998 for having infiltrating right-wing anti-Cuba organization based in Florida, which have organized numerous terrorist actions against the island over the last 45 years causing death and huge material damage.

Meanwhile, Dean Weston, a British member of the group and coordinator of the Executive Board of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in London, announced that, on October 8th, they would participate in a vigil in front of the US embassy in the British capital to express their support of Cuba.

During their stay in Cuba that will conclude on September 22nd, the visitors will carry out voluntary work in farms and will exchange experiences with Cuban youth, workers and leaders of political and grass-root organizations. They will also visit places of cultural, historic and economic interest.

Also on Monday, the Greek members of the European solidarity brigade sent a replica of the Parthenon to Cuban President Fidel Castro as an expression of their admiration for the Cuban people and the leadership of Fidel Castro.

The Parthenon (in Greek it means virgin - one of the adjectives that described Athens' patron goddess Athena) was built on the Acropolis in 447-432 B.C. by Pericles to honor Athena and to commemorate the Greek victory over the Persians. The monument is considered one of the most important ones of the old Greek civilization and is also regarded as one of the most beautiful architectural works of all times.

The rest of Europe (which isn't mentioned in this article) seems to be doing the same thing. Way to look out for democracy :)

It makes you wonder why America fought a cold war against Communists when Europeans and others love it so much.

Its from Cuban news, a fiercly pro-cuban site.

So? does it say that any of these goons are government officials? No, they are just a bunch of old commies that cannot adjust to the fact that communism is dead.

As I said, a nice piece of propaganda... and people who call themselves to be on the right are falling for it. What is the world coming to?

The US is still bitter becuase a tiny third world nation 90 miles off the coast of Florida has pwned them time and again for almost 50 years

And Mars if you want to know why the US fought so hard against Communism while others love it, as you say, ask yourself why does the US fight terrorism and harbour anti-Castro terrorists at the same time... you may realize it isn't because the US cares about others or the good of the world but because it serves their own interests.

Just watch the Presidential candidates sucking up to the Miami Mafia and anti-Castro terrorists, the US lets criminals guide their policy towards Cuba... these guys are paid career "exiles".

Well your beloved Communists murdered 7 million Ukrainians and 100 million people since the the early 1900s. Thats why people who value human rights hate Communism.

Cuba was merely a pawn of the Soviet Union. Now since the Soviet Union died, Cuba just becomes a pathetic island that still holds onto communism.

Why do Canadians praise Cuba when tons of Cubans suffer? Why does Canada pretend they're anti-racist when Blacks in Cuba are discriminated against?

The United States and Communism have been longtime enemys, thats no secret. It depends who you label a terroist, by the way. Since almost everything is labeled Terroism nowadays as you should know.

The Soviet Union wasn't truly communists as they enjoyed foreign capitol too like China.

Huh? What are you talking about? Cuba was merely a pawn of the Soviet Union. Now since the Soviet Union died, Cuba just becomes a pathetic island that I like to laugh at. I also find it funny how Canadians love Cuba.

We do love Cuba because we are treated like kings when we visit. We also enjoy the cigars we import and rums etc. I would hardly call Cuba pathetic and more a terrific destination to visit.

Well when I have visited Cuba I witnessed none of this nor the massive suffering you claim. Actually most of the Cubans do support Castro and the government they are hardly oppressed and have decent living standards. I also never witnessed any of the racism in Cuba that you claim of course we are allowed to fly there and Americans aren't as it is illegal too.

Why criticize other nations when tons suffer in the US?

No doubt... Americans ask your government why you can't go to Cuba and see for yourself what the country is like, ask them why you aren't free to do so like all the Canadians, British, Germans, etc that do so every year. Ask them why they force you to take their word for it.

Thats usually what Communist try to say-- that no Communist nation has ever been communist (they say this ofcourse since every Commie nation has been a disaster). The truth is-- Communism can NEVEr exists in its purest form since its impossible.

1) You are giving $$ to a leader that won't even let his own people leave.

2) Cigars in Cuba < Marijuana B)

Well when I have visited Cuba I witnessed none of this nor the massive suffering you claim.

Huh? I don't criticize any nation, I criticize the government. I don't hate Canadians, I only hate their oppressive government.
