Paranormal State

No worries (he says brightly). My Better Half does not like it either. She finds the voiceovers terribly pretentious. She doesn't watch it with me. Sigh.

I like the show, but I must admit my favorite is Lorraine Warren (www.warrens.net) . I am an ardent admirer of hers. I love it when they bring her in as a consultant.

The show may not be the best, but Lorraine Warren rules!

Dear God Craig, it was the first episode when they brought the Mrs. INFAMOUS Warren out the show went straight to hell (no pun intended). & in my small opinion, of course :}!

and it wasnt' just that - but a big part of it for me.

I think Warrens may have had good intentions in the very beginning but that eventually changed.. and it's clear she doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground.. again IMO. :}

Their intentions became making money thru books.

I saw some of the first episode. (I turn off the show because the second episode was a rerun.) But I'm glad that the woman isn't afraid of Walter anymore. And I'm glad the older ghost is gone & is where he belongs. The cemera doing what it did. Was freaky. Did anyone see anything? I didn't.

The next episode looks freaky! I want to see it so badly since it involves a insane ayslum.

That is what TV is. Make of it what you will. Low ratings = no show. Hype = viewers. Look at American Idol.

I still think Mrs. Warren rules. I read their first book, and to me it is quite engaging.

Hey everyone I'm new to the bored so don't jump on me for anything I say. But I couldn't help but see this thread and see if I couldn't help clear some things up. I'm a Demonologist, and a paranormal investigator, I watch and love PS.

First of all how about some history? PRS stands for Paranormal Research Society, it is a group passed out of Penn State started by Ryan Buell in his freshmen year of college. They, like many other investigating teams go to people's houses when they claim they have claim to have hauntings, they also started the UnivCon Convention where members of the Paranormal Field gather for seminars, and discussions. They've been doing this long before the show started.

Now I see a lot of complaints that the show has a very Christian overtone, now this is true but its not done purposely. They change their approach based on the views of their clients, as most of America is still Christian, a lot of practices you see are Christian. But they have also (so far) worked with native Americans, and done a Pagan Banishing Ritual.

Another thing I see is people claiming they do not debunk, or do things from a spiritual level and people frown upon that. But see PRS isn't TAPS, their goal at the end of the night isn't to say, your house is haunted, or your heat pipes just need to be purged (which a lot of us know is more often then not the case). Their goal is to put the CLIENTS mind at ease, which is why I respect them. At this point and time we do not have the technology for Science to confirm, or debunk the exsistence of Ghosts. SO that means that it could be all psychological, and if a Family is believing they are haunted so strongly that it is effecting their lives (losing sleep, depression, stress, etc) debunking a case, isn't totally going to help. So when they do a house blessing, or an exorcism at best they are doing something that based on the client's beliefs the client will have faith and and believe it worked. The mind sees what it wants to see and hears what it want to hear. So in doing this they are hopefully setting the clients mind at ease, haunting or not. And I think this is a service all of us investigators should be providing. Its not enough for someone to say "Oh its nothing" sometimes ya know?

Others claim they don't do enough Debunking, well PRS is on most of their cases for 4 days (much more then TAPs' nightly romps) and a give it to the skeptics that the producers will probably leave things out to enhance ratings and so on, but after every show Ryan Buell does a "Post Mordem" on the PRS forums and gives a less media friendly account of what happened. Perhaps the second season will bring an hour long show and we can see much more of the actual investigations. Instead of the current format which pretty much goes Intro: Spooky Experience: Conclusion.

As for the person that says a Real Demonologist wouldn't let that many people in the room blah blah blah. Well first of all Keith and Sandra Johnston are VERY well respected Demonologists in the field (Keith's brother Carl is featured regularly on TAPs). Second Ryan Buell has actually trained with the Vatican, he has gone with the Vatican on cases where exorcisms have been preformed, this information I'm sure is on the net, and will also be featured in Ryan's book. The people in the room during the Exorcism were Ryan Buell, the Psychic Chip Coffey, Keith and Sandra Johnston, and the wife of the man "possessed" all of them besides the wife having Paranormal if not Demonic experience and felt they were perpared to be in the room and from a Christian point of view if you're strong in your faith you have a strong upperhand on Demons. Also, a Catholic exorcism isn't the only way to go, it is just the more talked about way due to the media. There is a much easier form of an Exorcism which usually works just as well.

Now I've touched on a few points, and I'm sure there will be people who will argue this points but hey I'm used to it I work in the Paranormal Field, everything is an oppinion and an argument. But PRS does many good things for this community from Univcon (which has featured seminars by Jason and Grant from TAPs, Lorraine Warren, and many others in the field) to their forums, and mIRC (or Java based chat) which enables others in the field to regularly get together and debate. In fact if you're up for some heavy discussion in the paranormal visit this link: http://paranormalstatefanchat.com/ You'll see me in there often under this same name. You dont have to be a fan, just come in and join the dicussion, you can also catch the cast from Paranormal State in here on Monday nights after the show airs for a rather personal Q&A session. Hope this made some of you a bit more open minded about the show, this is the Paranormal Field people, not one thing is written in stone.

Last night's episode left me with mixed emotions. I'm glad that they helped those spirits. But I don't think a demon would be keeping them there. Most buildings like that are always haunted. I mean there's a few buildings like that in my state. That are like that but they're abandoned.

I can't believe they dragged that woman again. I'm kinda getting tired of seeing her. As if Chip isn't enough. I prefer Chip over her. *Laughs* She whacked him.

But I'm glad that they finally did a thing for the patients.

I like that Lucy spirit.

What was the old & new name for the building?

Edit: I forgot to mention. That most buildings like that. Are known to be haunted. There's nothing you can really do about it. =/

It's okay.

I have little problems with the show. But they're not many.

The only thing that bothers me. Is that everyone has to be a demon. Geez. Enough with the demons!

>_<"

Did anyone catch the name of the building? Before it became a drug treatment place? The people over at the Paranormal State Board won't answer my question.

I was reading something & someone said that Chip said you know who.

So probably is, Vermillion.

The name of the institution is Willard...as in the rat movie of the same name.

This show is total crap. The guy, ryan I think his name is, gets quick little twitchy smiles during what are supposed to be super-serious moments, and everything is WAY overdramatized. I mean, stupid music, stupid effects on his narrative voice, and everything. It's all so obviously fake.

Where ghosts are concerned, I've never seen one but I can't really say whether or not they exist. But shows like this make me mad, and when I find out that people actually watch it and take it seriously, I want to punch babies.

They are inexperienced... we've investigated Katie's bar they did an episode on. Its not as active as they claim it is. Why didn't they place a video camera in front of the glasses that shattered and moved on their own? Every time it happened, they never once had a camera on it. Any good experienced investigator would of placed a video camera in front of what they were doing with the glasses. Not only that, the two years my team has been investigating it, not one wine glass or bar glass has ever moved by itself or shattered. We debunked it because the smithtown RR is directly behind the bar casuing major vibrations which could easily prove how the glasses could move and break!? Not only that Katie's bar is located on a main road with high volume of traffic. the noises they hard in the basement were the compressors and ice machines. The owner is so desperate for money that he can't even afford proper heat. Needless to say, he would never let PRS turn the power off on him and lose his ice.

This is coming from 2 years of solid work at Katie's to prove nothing on the episode on PRS was is proof it was paranormal.

Thanks. But I'll have to pm Ryan over at the other board. And ask him directly. I could always research the building itself. I saw some abandoned buildings in the episode. That's why I'm so interested.

OMG! I'm so looking foward to tonight's episode! MOTHMAN! If they classfield him as a "demon." I'm going to rant like there's no tomorrow. ><

I must say that at the beginning of the series i was a bit bored at they way they conducted there selfs to wards the Paranormal, i can say that the show has grown on me and one of the things about the show that makes me not want to miss it is Chip..... i generally believe he is what makes the show.

My wife has never been into the paranormal and i usually watch these shows by myself but when she caught an episode with Chip it was almost like opening up a new chapter in her life, I have to agree about the Christian over tones of the show but it doesn't bother me since they do think and treat certain episodes with non Christian rituals which makes me believe that they are legit.

PS: The best show to date is when Chip was somewhat possessed and Loraine slapped him(LOL) funny stuff

The place is called the Willard Asylum.

I also just want to say a few things about PRS. They are NOT a scientific group so their methods are much different than alot of people expect. Their #1 priority is helping their client with whatever the situation might be. I had the opportunity to meet PRS & I spoke to Ryan & Katrina about some of their methods & just because it different doesnt mean its wrong. They spend so many hours on a case so that they can better help the client. Keep in mind also that they have no control over production, they do what they're told. Just like they're also protrayed as being stiff & having no personalities, well thats tv for you. They're all very nice & seemed genuine. If people dont like or agree with the show, then dont watch it. Too many people waste time ragging on a show that they dont care for. Get a life people.

I'm trying to quote the "mostly thru books" comment and it won't let me.Oh well.

I read the books the Warrens wrote, published copies of their "investigations." All of it is such tripe it's amazing anyone ever takes them seriousley. All Christian evil demons and sexual ghosts,as well as stories dripping with every "ghostly/scary/haunted" cliche' in the book.I'll bet someone on Paranormal State is related to the Warrens, and that this show was all Mrs Warrens idea.It sounds like the Warrens. All hyper-Christian(read:tunnel-visioned),overy-sensational,clich'ed,ect.

Paranormal State sucks tragically.

Yeah. They're not a "paranormal group" like most people. They're a different kind.

You've mentioned over & over & over how you're a "professional" paranormal investigator, well how professional can you be if you're trash talking the owner of Katie's bar. It sounds to me like you're bitter because your group got pushed out of the way to make room for a more professional group of people. They may be inexperienced, as you say it, but they come off more professional. I bet if it was you on A&E & not PRS you wouldnt be so sour about it. You really should be careful what you say publically because if you're the leader of a group not only are you making yourself sound foolish but you represent your group as well. You never know who you're gonna come across these boards. I happen to be friends with the owner of Katie's & I dont appreciate what you said. If you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all.
