glorybebe Posted January 25, 2013 #76 Share Posted January 25, 2013 Yes I do believe that monsters such as that could exist. I think that you could get someone crazier enough in the future to try hybrids either with animals or people and the experiment could go wrong. I agree. It is all in the challenge of seeing if they can do it. They keep thousands of illnesses so that they can experiment on them, I shudder to think what they are experimenting on. CrimsonKing Posted January 25, 2013 #77 Share Posted January 25, 2013 At the rate science in the biological field is going people may have pet chimera's some day
Rynald77 Posted January 25, 2013 #78 Share Posted January 25, 2013 Of course, but just hope there's no crazy scientist would make that monster because I'm not ready for that situation
the dalek killer Posted January 29, 2013 #79 Share Posted January 29, 2013 we already have put ears on mice made honey bees dangerous and created several viruses i say we can make about any bloody thing we want
Kozaky Posted February 14, 2013 #80 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Possibly, however it would be much more reliable to use other more common forms of biological weaponry.
Sundew Posted February 15, 2013 #81 Share Posted February 15, 2013 The only created "monsters" you might have to worry about are manipulated bacteria and viruses. It is certainly possible that we might accidentally created something deadly. For instance, we had a type of Ebola virus show up in a primate facility in Reston, Virginia. It was killing all the monkeys in that lab. Unlike all the other known forms of Ebola, this one was airborne, you did not need contact with bodily fluids. The good news turned out to be that it was apparently non-lethal in humans, because at least two workers became infected (by monkey attacks) and had symptoms no worse that a common cold. The monkeys were not so lucky, it killed 100% of them if I remember correctly, and rather horribly. Now imagine that the lab had been experimenting on the monkeys, injecting them with Ebola Zaire, in order to find a cure. EZ is 90% fatal in humans one of the most deadly viruses on the planet, it's vectors in the wild are (or perhaps were?) unknown and it periodically pops up and kills hundreds and then lays low. It causes massive bleeding from every bodily orifice and massive organ failure. It's a nasty thing for sure. But again, imagine them testing EZ on these monkeys with the Reston Ebola virus broke out. Both viruses now inhabit the lab animals and they, as viruses sometimes do, exchange a bit of genetic material, and suddenly have have an airborne Ebola Zaire-like disease 90% fatal in humans. And of course there are governments doing things like this on purpose, otherwise known as germ warfare. To be fair I do not have a background in this area and my facts could be off a bit, but I have done some reading for whatever that is worth. If you want the terrifying tale of how an airborne Ebola virus could have become a huge disaster right outside of our nation's Capitol read "The Hot Zone", it'll give you the willies for sure. So these are the real monsters you really have to worry about: Ebola, Smallpox, Black Plague, etc. Not so much the creatures from Resident Evil and the like.
