can people sense death

this is really weird but i just want to share this...

this happens just last year, oct 2009...jerome my 8 year old nephew had a friend just the same age as him and that kid is also our neighbor, his name is eric...oct 20 is the birthday of eric and there will be a children's party and of course my nephew is invited...on the birthday party,my cousin riza(mother of my nephew) bring her video cam to record all the fun, games and activities...it all went well...

a week after eric's birthday, eric along with his parents had a vehicular accident, unfortunately, eric died from that accident but his parents both survived...

my nephew jerome was so sad because of the death of his close friend eric...one afternoon me and my cousin saw jerome watching the video of eric's birthday party, maybe he misses his friend so much so me and riza decided to comfort jerome and watch the video with him...

but theres a particular part of the video that catches our attention...im a filipino so i'll just translate the tagalog conversation on the video...

here is that part...the clown who performed at eric's party ask him (eric anong birthday wish mo?) eric whats your birthday wish? eric became silent for a while and he replied (LUPA) then he blew the candles...lupa is a filipino word and it means SOIL...the clown ask him again about his birthday wish and eric replied (MARAMING LUPA) meaning A LOT OF SOIL...

that part of the video gives me and riza a creepy feeling...because at the actual party,we didn't notice what eric's reply when he's asked about his birthday wish...

DOES THAT MEAN ERIC GIVES A HINT THAT VERY SOON HE WILL BE SIX FEET UNDER THE GROUND???

and we also show this video to eric,s parents during his burial and it also creeps them...

I would think so. I mean, animals do it all the time. They know they are not going to make it, so they go somewhere and just die. I doubt it's a conscious thing, but there are probably some mechanisms in the brain that begin to misfire or something.

Last year i was watching my laposo apso when i let him out in the backyard to use the bathroom he took a long time so i whent out there to see what was wrong and he had just whent into a small cornor by the fence and layed down and died right there.Thats why i think he whent outside to pass away he just felt it coming probly so iam sure humans could to.

I can understand that we human can sense when we ourselves are close to death, but I find it really interesting how some animals/pets can sense when a human/their owner is going to die too.

Theres that story of that cat at the nursing home who always goes and curls up next to a resident and then that resident dies shortly after.. They suspect the cat can sense it and goes and comforts the resident.

My friends dad died of cancer a couple of years ago, and he had a pet dog who he loved very much. the same night he died, his wife went home from the hospital and found his dog curled up asleep in his basket.. dead. The vet found no reason why the dog would have died... but he died that same night his owner did <img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

A reason the dog might die when there owner dies is because the dog might get so depressed and stop eating and feel like it had no reason to live and just give up but since this was so sudden this might not have been the case

 You bet they can. Some of us see it as a "gift" others as a PITA and an intrusion when not asked for. I've learned to control it and I can use it when I need to and it not using me. :tu:

Some of them don't want to, even if they can, and others who wouldn't recognize it if it came up and slapped the "pookie" out of them regardless how "smart" they try to sound.

:nw::nw: Hummm...must not be making myself clear or they can't see the forest for the trees. Woodpecker joke. Yes...I repeat yes..for the last time, some of us who are quifted, to some degree than another, who can sense death...yep.. that dude/babe in the black robe/cloak, goin' about looking for those whose time is up..wish I'd refer some folks to him...It can appear as a solid apparation, in a dream, as a voice, you pick it and it will do its best to fit into what you think he/she looks like. What makes it hard is seein' it in friends or folks you know and know you can't tell them because they'd think you were nuts, more accurate than most would admit, but still the "Grim Reaper" is just about to make another "house call". :santa:

:sleepy::sleepy: This is gettin' old or perhaps it should be put out of its misery, as fast as possible. I think I have covered the topic and see no point to continue to redefine what I have already said and/or refuted by others. I'm right now, will be right tomorrow, and until I am convinced I am wrong. WOW, I sound like I should run for office. :tu::tu::tu:

Holy Zeus. How many emoticons do you need? Is one required after each of your sentences?

Anyways, what was up with the PITA thing you mentioned earlier?

This is very interesting. A few years ago my Uncle died unexpectadly. Him and his wife(my Aunt) were in bed sleeping and he woke up suddenly which woke up my Aunt as well of course. He said, "Something is not right" and started pacing around the room and died a little while later. I know that he woke up knowing he was dying.

My father died back in 1996 but he was diagnosed with a disease and knew for a long time that he was dying. So I think that is different. He just slipped into a coma after a while and his body gave out and he died.

After my grandfather died, my mother related that he had told her the day before "Leslie, I'm not going to be with you guys much longer". She brushed him off, but felt horrible long afterward thinking she could have done something. In reality, though, grandpa had been through multiple heart surgeries, arterial bypasses, cancer, strokes, and the like. I think he (and probably many people in these situations), just finally felt his body shutting down and didn't want to fight anymore. The will to live is a powerful thing, and when one reaches the point of giving this up, death could very easily follow soon after.

I work with people who are dieing and I have seen many deaths and people do change and they do know when they are going to die. They do stop eating that is their way of letting go.I have seen people talking to people that are not there or they say they have visitors when noone is there. They say there comming for me and there gone within a day or two. They say that people are visited by people that have gone befor them they are telling them to come and be with them.I have been touched by someone that has just passed away the nurse went to check on him and befor she came out and told me I heard a loud pop behind my ear and felt something behind my ear.The nurse came out a minute later and said that this guy was gone. This just happened a couple days ago this lady kept trying to get out of bed and she could not breath I spent most of the night in her room with her as she did not want me to leave her.She kept her hand held out and kept trying to say something but I could no longer understand her.I stayed with her she was awake and alert and I was telling her it was ok that I was here and it was ok to let go.That she could go be with Jesus on his birthday. This lady started taking real deep breaths and I knew she was going to go within minutes and she did.Her eyes were open and on me the whole time and I held her hand I think she knew and did not want to be alone in her final hours.I have lots of stories just know that people that are very sick and know they are going to die they know that it is close when the time comes.

Death is a natural instinct, and so I believe we have an innate "sense" of death, but since we don't like it, we suppress it. If you ask someone on their deathbed, they pretty much "know."

Nemo, how is it a "natural instinct"? What part?

And you cant just make something go away, by basically willing it away.

And what do you mean by asking someone on their death bed and them knowing?

Animals can sense when they are near death. They usually go hide somewhere to be alone when they die. Humans are animals too so I believe they can sense it also. For example my husbands sister and him never got along and absolutely hated one another. Until the last time he saw her they got along very well like never before, then about a month later she died. She also wrote a poem for her family as if she knew she was going to die soon.

I've never experienced it before, so I have no say in this conversation. However, several people have already pointed out that animals know when they are about to pass away. My family has dogs, cats, and birds who huddled up in some secluded area before their time came.

I've only ever heard one person say to me "I'm dying." Naturally I said "No you're not." She was a healthy 23 year old woman at the time.

About a week later she was dead. She'd been murdered. They arrested her killer seven years later through DNA.

This is kinda off subject, but still relevent. One time late at night totaly asleep, I heard someone scream my name. In a instant I was fully awake, and sitting striaght up in the bed. My wife says to me "whats wrong" so I say to her, "someone died". And with that I laid back down and went to sleep. The next day my sister calls me and tells me a good friend of ours commited suicide that night.

I note that the author opened up this thread some time ago but now it's the only sensical thread discovered today I can relate to on the web.

Without harping on about it, yes a recent diagnosis gave cause for alarm, in fact it was a shock but I've lived with it for 7 months.

No cure. Treatment helps abate the affect.

Two weeks since and still, each night, I sense impending doom; not because of consciousness of the disease; but physical changes, chemical alterations in the body leaving me bereft of control over bodily function (mainly, my breathing), with uncontrollable urges of helplessness, when almost that night I slipped away in my sleep, sensed my eyes rolling, swallowing the last breath, sinking into nothingness, but still sensing everything. Instinct and battling that urge to survive forced myself awake, tasting vomit, air passage blocked (I assumed with vomit) and I ran to the stairs compressing the air left in my lungs at each contraction fluid spilt from my mouth: I was fighting to breath again.

Thing is, recently I was on a return flight to Singapore from Australia the aircraft was caught in extreme turbulence not one person on the plane failed to gasp when on several occasions the airplane felt as if it was falling abruptly from the sky; it was then that I came suddenly to terms with my end, a calm and peace came over me, I sensed my consciousness had reached a higher plain, I spoke aloud my love and goodbyes to those close - who I hoped could sense that coming from me. I wasn't sure if it was the fact that after so many near accidents as a skydiver fearlessness of falling from the sky saw me immune, or whether I did truly come to terms with a sense of death at all. Because, now, I fear that if I don't resist failing to awake, I may get stuck in a place where no one will know I am stuck, and fear the awareness of being buried underground with these senses intact no one will be there to hold my hand comfort me during death.

I want to say that heading toward it the sense of death lasts. It's what I have experienced. I just wish it more immediate, when I come to surrender.

Thanks for bringing this back Worthalisteninggear. It's hard to know what gems are buried in old pages y'know. What an interesting subject, yes I think people do know when they're about to go. I remember my dad doing a lot of clearing out of his stuff before he went to hospital. On the night of his pasing, he rang everyone up including family and friends, for a nice cheerful hello. He died a few hours after. It was like he was saying bye.

I know my partner's mum told him she was going to die soon, and she seemed perfectly fine. A few days later she suffered a heart attack and died. His brother told him that he was going to die soon and he died a week later. He was very ill.
