This aside 2012 will be like every other year and if people thousands of years ago were so good at predicting the end they would have predicted the end of their world (fall of civilization) and they didn't.

Just because they didn't some how stop it from happening does not mean they didn't know about it. Right now your not doing anything about POTENTIAL world altering events, your just sitting at your computer blogging on the internet about how nothing will happen to us because were number 1 , ok think you might get my analogy so ill stop.

The potential of something happening that might upset your life is allways there. You could be hit by a car, a plane could crash on the building you're in, you could catch a cold, you could be hit by lightening, your airco could stop functioning, you could trip over your dog and break a leg, you could be stung by a bee, hell you even could be hit by a meteorite (although the chances are astronomical, to be fair.).....

The potential of something happening is a constant, it should not stop you from living your life without fear, because if your fear the potential of something happening, you don't come out of your house and that's called agoraphobia.

And no they didn't predict their own civilization to end, for the record, just as their calendar in fact does not end in 2012, as their writings give several dates after 2012.

If you're looking for something special about 2012 try this...

The Gregorian calendar has a 400 year cycle. So if you had a calendar from 1612 you could use it next year.

2012 Hoax

The "2012 doomsday" is a hoax, a fraud, and an absolute con job. It is a cruel and disgusting lie being promoted by scam artists after money; First they scare people to death that something terrible is going to happen, then publish books and videos on "how to survive the apocalypse". Get the scam?! You're not going to fall for something like that… right?

Not that I am trying to give yet another ridiculous doomsday interpretation of Mayan calenders any credit, but for accuracy's sake, do you not remember an earthquake and resulting tsunamis that killed over 200,000 people?

Because I think it is our minds that create the reality I do agree with Baudrillard that we are getting further and further away from a 'real' reality. There is much more virtualism, fantasy and going against nature rather than trying to harmonize with it. The Matrix just goes from strength to strength in the philosophy it covers and 2012 may be the time we collectively take the red pill or will the light go out for ever.

2012 is just another sign post but a sign of these times does seem to be suffering and inequity. No difference there then but because people are engaged in the simulation of reality they care less about what is actually going on. So in that sense people do most literally need to wake up from the Matrix and step out of the cave that is there ego and the conventions of society.
