Atheist God Posted March 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2008 BBC Scottish filmgoers have voted Christopher Lambert, in the film Highlander, as the owner of the least convincing Scottish on-screen accent. The actor was a resounding winner with 42% of the vote. Mel Gibson came in second place with 27%, for his portrayal of William Wallace in the film Braveheart. Several people in the online survey voted for Sean Connery, but these were discounted as the actor is Scottish. The survey of 1700 film-goers in Scotland was undertaken by a film memorabilia website, AsWornIn.com. I tend to agree here with the Scottish film goers that Lambert was even worse then Gibson. Great movie but horrible accent. I only agree because I know several Scottish people and Lambert didn't sound like them.
avs76 Posted March 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) Weird thing I found about that movie is Christopher Lambert is a Frenchman playing a Scotsman, while Sean Connery is a Scotsman playing a .... Spaniard. WTF? Maybe Connery should be voted as having the least convincing Spanish on-screen accent. EDIT: I apologise. I have just done some research and discovered that while Connery played a character named Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (which I thought was Spanish) the character claims to originally be Egyptian by birth (source). Still a poor accent in my books. Sorry for the misinformation Edited March 16, 2008 by avs76
Cradle of Fish Posted March 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2008 I enjoyed that movie, despite it's 80s campiness and Lamberts confusing accent. Mels in Braveheart was pretty bad now that I think of it, but the other actors in that movie who werent scottish got it pretty spot on.

Bill Hill Posted March 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 16, 2008 I don't know about Scottish accents, but I've downloaded a few star wars audio books, and every time the American reader.. does a Irish impression of Qui-Gon Jinn(aka Liam Neeson); it's really, really bad.
