Giant squid discovered in California

user posted image rWildlife researchers in California said they found the remains of what is likely a rare 25-foot-long giant squid. The damaged carcass of what researchers say is probably a giant squid, was found about 20 miles from the shore of Santa Cruz, Calif.

, the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel reported. Researcher Sean Van Sommeran and a number of members of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation found the remains of the squid in the water Wednesday.

I could be wrong, but I thought squid preferred colder waters?

mm, didnt they find alot of giant squid already ?

i heard that they have footage of one somewhere.

& squid do live in colder deeper waters, but this one was probably injured and washed up on shore.

The first giant squid corpse ever handled was .. I believe in January of this year. Or it might have been sometime in 2007. These things are still a pretty unusual find. Far as I know only one has ever been photographed alive in the water.

I thought they preferred colder waters, too. Because they're so big and live so deep under the ocean?

But that doesn't really look like a GIANT squid to me :hmm:
