Edgar Mitchell claims alien contact cover-up

Maybe it takes someone that holds humanity in a higher light than I do to think that we would be interesting to beings from another world. As far as our future I can only see three possibilities.

1. A natural disaster wipes us out. Super volcano, asteroid, earth quake and/or uncovering some nasty virus, and anything else that is out of our control. Go to sleep everything is ok, wake up and the lucky ones are gone. What is left is wasteland if anything is there.

2. Someone somewhere p***es off the wrong person and we get nuked, manmade virus or any other million ways we can think of to wipe our selves off the face of the world.

3. If you take a large cage put a lot of food in it and a few rats, they will breed, eat and defecate until the cage cannot support the number of rats and ether they turn on each other or the cage becomes so toxic that they die in their own feces.

If I was a betting man I would say #3 will happen. Until the average person can get over beer, porn and hate I do not see us lasting as a hole. Even now I think the masses that roam the earth are losing their common since and their ability to reason. The few of us out there that have open minded and have some intellect will soon be trampled by a rambling mob on their way to a Jerry Springer show.

I think this comes from spending my day as a Network Admin and most the time when I have to deal with a clients I have to give answers like: Your computer needs power to work that is why you have to plug it in. No you cannot get to your e-mail without internet, and no I cannot mail the internet to you. And my fav. You have to have a computer to get to a webpage.

The only way I can see us being remotely interesting to space traveling beings is maybe a morbid curiosity the same we have to watch someone ride a bike off a roof top only to see them rack them self and end up in the hospital.

To say that they would look at us like we would a caveman one would first have to assume that they would be carbon based humanoid. Silicon shares much of the same properties as carbon and maybe a bunch of other elements that we yet to discover. Who is to say if they would even recognize us as life.

That is one of the reasons I like coming to this site because I find the people here are a little more open minded and a lot more intelligent than most. Most of sites it is a matter of time before it turns in to a flame match or you start to see “Cool want to private!”

To summarize in a way that most of my relatives would understand:

Ma grab your gun the monster truck is all most out of gas and the shooting is going to begin and no one up there cares.

"beer, porn, and hate"? Well, two out of three ain't bad...

Your three possibilities for human extinction aren't unlikely, but I have hope that there are alternatives. Of course, for humanity to reach other alternatives, it will first be necessary for people to believe that such alternatives are possible...

Your point about how a space fairing intelligence might view humanity is worthy of note. For instance: if they were machines, prehaps they would consider our relatively privative devices the true embryonic civilization.

Most likely, whatever aliens we might encounter would appear to be monstrous to human sensibilities. A quick tour of the UFO forums reveals a familiar pattern: the good beautiful aliens that look just like us, and the evil aliens who look like monsters. The age-old prejudice reveals itself: if it looks different, it is an enemy. Logically though, ANY ET is going to look different. If humanity meets an "alien" that looks human, than the human race is being lied to.

While I want to respect him, and I do think he might be onto something, I don't think he has the full story here.

Who does...?

I would love to think that humans can put everything aside and become something grate but I do not think we will get to that point before we get wiped out one way are another.

Or they might view us as an infection on other wise valuable raw materials.

What is to say the same about them? That if we look different we will be the enemy. The hole idea that aliens are visiting earth, keeping out of sight for 60 years just to spy on us seems a little like the X-files and less like the real world. If they show up one day land in Time Square solve world hunger, war and gave us free energy grate! Even then I think someone would shoot at them.

I have a feeling that if they did bother to show up it would be a blood bath and we will be on the receiving end of a huge whoop ***.

Hmmmmm look around we all ready destroyed over 1 / 3 of the earth, it must be right!

I find it very strange they all spill the beans when they get old and no longer feel that what they might tell is threatning to any goverment. The young ones keep it under the hat and live a normal life but once old they leave this old world saying it was all true.

Would you spill the beans when you got old? Would you look at this as a last ditch effort to sell a book? Maybe go out ringging the money bell? Cha Ching!

Well this guy has been around a long time and he has beat around the bush about what he knew for years now. He tested the waters and he is still with us no one knocked him off. He has my vote on what he says just because of who he is and what he has done in his life.

Its about time now the goverments all need to step up and back up his claims and produce some answers. Might be 100 years from now before we see that. Who knows the way people p*** each other off lets just hope its not when some form of goverment brings them down upon us in a unfriendly manner. Like cheat them out of a cow :)

Wolfen69...I'm really enjoying your posts, I think you've made some great points here and I agree to an extent with a lot of it.

In my opinion, it may not be fully valid to assume that, for example, a type X -> type 0 meeting would result in no interest in the type 0 from the type X. You're referring to hierarchy of standards and relating it to how we would look at an ant. Well, that may not be entirely true, and apologies if I can't explain this very well...

An ant is a very simple creature, with X number of cells and X number of abilities and functionalities. Humans have millions (or billions) more cells and abilities/functionalities than ants do. Are you then assuming that a type 1 or type 2 have millions or billions more cells and abilities/functionalities than us? Even if that was unimaginable, I do not think that scientific reason would state that they do. Aliens would be absolutely huge in physical comparison, although admittedly they may have millions more abilities and functionalities than us. But even if you take out the physical comparison, that would still give them reason to be curious about our physical make-up, just as we may be curious of a new species make-up, especially one that may have a very similar physical structure (or a relatively similar amount of cells) as us.

I wish I could think of an analogy to put this against, but I can't. So I hope that kind of makes sense. I guess I'm kind of trying to say that ants may be on level 1 to us, and humans are on level 100, and a type 1 civilization are on level 500, but once you get to level 100, you may be of interest to much higher leveled species. Almost like a logarithmic scale of how interesting a species is based on their level. Whereas, you seem to assume that the scale would just be a straight upward line. I don't see how you could assume that's true.

Besides, if the relation you're drawing up was correct...why don't small spiders take an interest in ants? They're probably on a similar level to each other, so using your assumptions, they should be interested in one another? As far as I know they're not, and the reason being is that they don't have the capacity to care, understand or find a beneficial reason for doing so. If you then go up the scale and look at dogs and cats, who are also on a similar level. Are they interested in one another? More so, yes, they may chase each other around and stare at each other for a while, they may even become friends. So, as you see, as you get further up the levels of species, the interest level between species on a similar level seems to become stronger. You could then consider this to be a logarithmic scale of how interesting a species is based on their level.

So who knows how interesting we might be to a type 1, or even a type 2 or 3 civilization. It's not as straightforward as you may think, at least not in my opinion.

Rather an ignorant statement that aliens wouldn't be interested in us. We are a sentient species, we have our unique culture and technologies. Aliens would be most interested in us and they WOULD be curious otherwise they would still be in their equivalent of the stone age.

I agree with that. Similarly, if we had a chance, we would all love to go back and observe the cave man. And with those squidly little bodies and big heads, we've got to seem cool the them even if on a primal level.

All I really have left to say is that, whether aliens exist or not, we have another 36 billion years to find out, at least before the Sun explodes, our atmosphere dissolves and our descendents suffocate in the vacuum of space.

Also to add a couple of more things to what I said...

It's completely possible that aliens aren't interested in us. But they may be interested in Earth itself, due to the perfect atmosphere it has to yield life. Maybe if aliens came here they'd have come from a world that was nowhere near as good at yielding life as ours, albeit successful enough to have produced them.

And what if a civilization who came here were similarly developed to us but had just so happened to stumble upon the secrets of space travel? After all, we're searching for such evasive secrets every day, and there's every chance we could stumble upon an answer tomorrow or next week. If we did, and within a few years we'd built a spaceship and then managed to travel to another civilization's planet, would we find them uninteresting? Doubtful. Yes, our technology would be super-advanced compared to theirs, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't be interested in them.

The assumption here is that if another civilization is type 1, then they must be developed in all other areas as well as scientific technology. There's no way that it's valid to say that, they may even be less physically and mentally advanced than us, but happened to stumble upon some answers, as I said before. Just because a civilization may have conquered space travel, it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll have become more advanced in every other respect as well.

i think its almost certain that life exists somewhere, i'd even go as far as to say 'life' in some form lives on most planets. whether or not that life has ever visited us is another story. but try not to think of it as the gov't hiding it from us, but people not being ready to handle something of such magnitude. seriously imagine how life would change if it was revealed we're not alone. do you think you could get up and go to work to work tomorrow morning?

Going fast would not only be one thing we would have to understand. Take a look what NASA has to figure out just to go to Mars. Air, food, landing, taking off, and solar flares just to name a few. That is just a planet to planet jump. To go from solar system to solar system would pose a lot more problems esp how to keep the craft powered during the long trip with out solar panels to name one. We would have to re do every thing we under stand today. I am sorry to say going between solar systems would not be a walk in a park or something you could just stumble on. You would have to have more technology than we have now.

OK I think every one is getting hung up on the ant analogy. What I am trying say is a being that could hop from solar system to solar system like it is nothing would more than likely know are have access to anything that we could possibly show them. How would they, maybe virtual reality quantum simulations that are 100% accurate and can simulate any place or time. I do not know, and that sounds good, remember they would have technology that we have not dreamed of yet.

Yes it would be neat to go back and see the cavemen. But would you like to go back and retake 1 st grade? Sit down in the little chairs and relearn every thing they teach in 1 st grade. No? Why? Because you all ready know what 1 + 1 is. They would have nothing new to show you.

The government has satellites that can track someone buy their unique body heat signature in a busy city like New York and there are businesses using computers that can get every thing from you complete medical records, credit history down to the last e-mail you sent your mom. But aliens that can that can build ships that defy gravity and travel at the speed of light still have to rely on but probes and the equal to RF tags we put on live stock?

Every UFO thing I ever hear of seems to be based on the fact that they are studding us. For some reason interstellar being from light years away, maybe even bend the laws of physics with out problems, avoid detection for 60 years, not worried about air, food or any thing else, just to come to earth to cut up cows and probe people? Just does not fit to me. You would think they would have more non intrusive ways to study us.

Something else that has all ways bothered me too. People say that UFO have been here in the past too because they found saucer shapes in hieroglyphs and cave drawings. Are we to think that aliens have reached some technology limit that they can not improve them selves any more? Our cars do not look the same as the first ones we made and in 100 or 200 years I bet there not going to look like what we have now. Planes, boats, and houses every thing changes. But yet UFOs seem to all ways be saucer or cigar shaped for 1,000 of years. Has any one ever thought WHY?

I never gave all this much thought until now and on the LIR to work this morning I started to ponder. If I toss out every ones explanations about aliens what WOULD fit with every thing I have read, seen, heard and know. I think I could come up with something that would work and make every thing fit. Then I am no expert and to tell the truth I do not think any one will ever know.

You can find my explanation in my new book “Life With Out Aliens”. Just kidding maybe I will put it in my next post.

I think this is typical of your argument. Whilst I agree with most of the things you say, I feel that you keep assuming that rates of growth remain constant between species. That just because we changed our cars so much in X amount of time, aliens also would change the same amount. That assumption is based on a human approach, aliens may not feel the need to improve their spaceships, or maybe they do but they keep them the same shape for a reason. Or maybe they just don't change their stuff at the same rate as humans do. You cannt just assume that they would change in the same way we would.

Besides, if you were going by that approach and related it to your ant approach (yes, I know we don't want to get hung up on this argument, but...), then why haven't ants changed how their homes look as drastically as humans have over the years? Humans are the only species on the planet that change things like that, why would you assume that aliens would do the same as us?

ion engine. Ion engines work in the solar system. They should work at least 100% better in interstellar space because there is more stuff there. Stars push stuff away from them creating a near vacuum.

Very valid point. But what I was going by is that humans have been walking upright for 200,000 to 100,000 years depending on who you ask. Cave paintings start around 32,000 years ago and hieroglyphs around 6,000+- years. The first car was about 336 years ago to 239 years ago (Depending if you credit Ferdinand Verbiest or Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot with making the fist car). You would think that lets just say in 5,000 years there would be some noted changes in UFO even if there race was slower than us.

ion engine. Ion engines work in the solar system. They should work at least 100% better in interstellar space because there is more stuff there. Stars push stuff away from them creating a near vacuum.

Yes ion engines do show grate possibilities with in our solar system and for probes. There is no such thing as a perfect vacuum and in space there are still particles some of witch is from the sun. If you are talking about when you hit the edge of the suns magnetic field there is a spike of particles and then it goes back down but still not so much to help or hamper a space craft. The other problem with ion drives is the particles that they emit (for a lack of a better way to explain it with out going into how they work or how to make one) are so small. An ion drive will admit the same about of force on earth as it does in space because of this, and trust me our air is more dense than space. Now for the bad news even if we build a huge ion drive and set it loose it would still take 1,000s of years just to reach another solar system.

Personally I believe that there has always been life in the universe before man. If the world government actually told the public the truth I believe that we can finally be at global peace. The problem is it will most likely kill our secret war economy. And lets be honest if old white men lose control of that, old white men won't have the power anymore. Figure thats why Obama is so scary. lol. Truth of the matter, nobody becomes friends without a purpose so I wonder what the global governments r giving them so they don't enslave us. I mean come on we're not stupid if astronauts r starting to reveal things what the hell are the people in power waiting for.

WTF????

LOL Don’t confuse grammar with intellect. I know I am horrible at spelling, then eng has all ways confused me. I before E exp after C and on Monday and Wednesdays…

Then once more I am very dyslexic to if you have ever notice that I do not use the REPLY button it is because I cut and past every thing in to word first. Hay I might get the wrong word but at least it is spelled right. With this and being at work and spending only 5 sec to type out a post sometimes it is a wonder that it is readable at all.

In school I would all ways try to skip out of eng class to drop in on a math class or science. Now I wish I would not have done that, even if I know a lot of stuff now trying to share ideas some times I do come across looking like a smart 8 yr old. But I can LOL at it.

Or I could use the excuse that being a wolf, it is kind of hard to type with paws. :D

It seems to me that more and more, there are people coming forward about ufos' that are more believable than the average person. I think this is a "managed" leak, one that will slowly get the public used to the idea of life beyond earth. The issue of ufos' and alien life is getting harder and harder to cover up and the govt is FINALLY getting that through thier thick heads. The majority of us would say "oh, alien life forms. It's about time they admitted it". Yes, it would cause an uproar but not the mayhem that is feared to happen.
