Sen. McCain picks Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for

One of the first things she did as Gov in Alaska was to sell the private Governer's jet. She then flew commercial and saved the state a bunch of money. I mean how cool is that ?

Sure I disagree with her on many things. But you have to be impressed by that.

And yet all of them have a wealth of experience when compared to Barack Obama. Also, you speak of "best" presidents (according to you) but you fail to mention how different each election is, and how much you must consider when looking at each presidential election. Lack of "real/legit" experience is just one of many reasons Barack Obama should never become the President of the United States, and is it far from the main reason.

Welcome to UM!

Sorry, you are wrong.

Here's some stuff from Wikipedia.

On Obama's Experience

1. Obama has served almost 3 years as a US senator.

2. He's served a total of 12 years experience in government, both state and federal.

3. He went Occidental College, a liberal arts school in L.A.

4. Obama graduated with a B.A. from Columbia in 1983, then worked for a year at the Business International Corporation and then at the New York Public Interest Research Group.

5. After graduating, he went to work as a community organizer in Chicago.

6. Following three years of helping some of Chicago's poorest residents recover from a steel mill closing through job training programs, he went to Harvard Law. There, he became the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review.

7. He then began working at a civil rights firm and went on to teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago. He did all of this before his career in politics began.

8. In 1993 Obama joined Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a 12-attorney law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development, where he was an associate for three years from 1993 to 1996, then of counsel from 1996 to 2004, with his law license becoming inactive in 2002.

9. Obama was a founding member of the board of directors of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife, Michelle, became the founding executive director of Public Allies Chicago in early 1993. He served on the board of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago, which in 1985 had been the first foundation to fund Obama's DCP, from 1993–2002, and served on the board of directors of The Joyce Foundation from 1994–2002.[11] Obama served on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge from 1995–2002, as founding president and chairman of the board of directors from 1995–1999. He also served on the board of directors of the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and the Lugenia Burns Hope Center.

10. In the U.S. Senate Obama is unique among Senators in that he serves on three of the four Senate Committees dealing with foreign policy issues including the Foreign Relations; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs committees and is the Chair of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Relations which is responsible fore U.S. relations with European countries, the European Union, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (i.e., NATO). In comparison, McCain serves on 1 of these.

11. Obama service on the Foreign Relations committee has placed him in an unique position in that he is the Chair of the Subcommittee on European Relations and serves on the Subcommittees on African Affairs; East Asia and Pacific Affairs; and International Development and Foreign Assistance, Economic Affairs, and International Environmental Protection. This cross-section of subcommittees places Obama in a unique position of having knowledge about Asian, African and European issues.

12. Obama has also traveled extensively in his capacity as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and has visited Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan in Asia; Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, and the Palestinian Territories in the Middle East; and Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Africa in Africa. Obama has also co-sponsored the "Lugar-Obama Act" with Republican Senator Richard Lugar who was Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations at the time. This act was a bi-partisan effort to increase U.S. security in terms of the elimination of conventional weapons and weapons of mass destruction.

13. Obama has also sponsored legislation such as the "Democratic Republic of Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act" which was signed into law by President Bush on December 22, 2006. Obama has co-sponsored immigration related bills related to his service on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee including the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act. His extensive foreign policy experience exceeds that of every other Presidential candidate including his trips abroad in the performance of his official duties as a member of committees dealing with foreign relation issues.

Now, lets contrast that with past presidents.

Abraham Lincoln served two years in the U.S.House.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: At time of his election in 1932, total of 14 years experience in government, both state and federal.

Ronald Reagan: At time of his election in 1980, total of 8 years experience in government, all state.

John F. Kennedy: At time of his election in 1960, total of 12 years experience in government, all federal.

Many past presidents have had the same, or less experience then Obama.

Now, what about McCain?

And, lets remember McCain's "Experience":

1. His class rank at the U.S. Naval Academy was 894 out of 899. In other words, fifth from the bottom.

2. He cheated on his sick and disfigured wife, and eventually divorced her.

3. He was part of a major political scandal.

Charles Keating ran a savings and loan in Irvine, California. He made over a million dollars in contributions to five Senators, asking for their help in getting federal regulators off his back. McCain's wife invested in a shopping center of Keating's, they borrowed Keating's private jet for trips to Keating's private retreat, and McCain received over $100,000 from Keating and his associates.[3]

Keating's financial empire exploded, resulting in charges of fraud and racketeering, helping to usher in the great savings and loan scandal in the late 80s. McCain's efforts on Keating's behalf helped light the fuse.

McCain's "Experience" seems to be in scandals, divorce, and failing a mediocre college...

So, next time check your facts before making baseless claims.

I failed to realize that you are now a judge on what "good" experience is. A strong college. Community work. Speeches. Travel. WOW! I would say that a good number of people on this board alone can make that exact claim. Again, what you just listed does not make a president. And please refrain from talking about the Constitution and Barack at the same time. If you look at his history and his statements, I think you will find that Obama does not have the best record of defending our Constitution.

Obama has quite a good record of defending our constitution. He was, after all, an expert on it.

With the exception of his recent vote on FISA(which McCain and almost every republican voted Yes for, too) he has had an excellent record.

The ACLU(American Civil Liberties Union) gives him:

Lifetime score: 82%

McCain?

McCain Lifetime score: 25%

Exactly.

Unless you've been to Harvard Law, and become a Constitutional Law Proffessor, Obama knows quite a bit more on our constitution then you do.

This is just a very foolish statement from someone who obviously is not informed about her history or views. She stands with a majority of Americans with drilling. You might not agree, but a majority of those around you do.

There was a time when the vast majority was pro-slavery? Does that make it right? No.

She is NOT a creationist.

But she DOES want Creationist views in schools.

She is not anti-gay rights, although you have decided that being against gay marriage would be equal to her being against all of those who have same sex partners.

Being able to marry a person you love is a civil liberty. It is part of Jefferson's pursuit of happiness.

Lives would be destroyed if a "Marriage" amendment was added to the constitution.

Please explain to me how that is a "disaster" for America.

Religion and Creationism being taught in schools is a disaster for America liberties, educational systems, and scientific progress in America. We'd be considered a joke internationally.

Religion deciding who you can marry is a disaster for American liberties.

Did you actually read the Constitution? Do you know what those Amendments even say? Or who they are protecting? You can throw out the above statement as it does not apply to either McCain or Palin.

Let's start with the 4th amendment.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

McCain violates this amendment, which guarantees privacy. He wants more warrantless wiretapping, and governmental spying.

On to the 6th:

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State"

Yet, McCain is all for sending "terrorists" to gitmo without a trial.

On to the 8th:

"nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted"

Yet, McCain wants to continually waterboard and brutally torture "terrorists".

Nobody "loves" war, but it happens, and when it does, we need to be ready to defend our country. A war is between two (or more) countries, and we will not be making all of the decisions.

McCain wants to unconditionally continue the war in Iraq, and start a war with Iran. HE doesn't even want to TRY diplomacy; He makes fun of Obama's plans.

That is just insane. Obama has stated time and time again how much money he is looking to spend, and I would imagine that we are just getting the tip of a very large iceberg with that. Who has this money? Where does he plan on getting it from? The government (federal) does not need to be bigger.

200 million dollars go EVERY DAY TO the war.

MORE will go to McCain's Iran war.

You are KIDDING yourself if you think that Obama can POSSIBLY spend 200 million dollars a day on HELPING America.

Whether you like it or not, McCain's war will be 10 times more expensive and damaging then anything Obama plans.

Are you sure about that? What do you consider "rich" and what do you consider "poor"? You put huge social programs in place (like Obama has in mind) and everyone except the poor will be taxed more. Do the math when you have some free time. It will open your eyes.

It's time for you to stop making up BS.

From the Washington Post, based exactly on Obama's and McCain's plans:

linked-image

That speaks for itself.

According to you. You do not speak for all Americans. In fact, you will find a very different list if you would listen to others.

But you would find the same list if you talked to a founding father.

In Conclusion:

1. Solid facts show us Obama has had quite a bit of experience, and more then many famous presidents.

2. Solid facts show us that McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his mediocre college, was involved in a scandal, and cheated on his wife.

3. The voting record of McCain has been constantly against Constitutional rights: Warrantless wiretapping, the end of habius corpus, and unchecked cruel and unusual punishment. The ACLU rates Obama more then 3 times higher then McCain.

4. McCain chants "Bomb Iran!" at rallies. The current war has cost trillions of dollars, and a new one will cost VASTLY more money then any of Obama's social plans.

5. Palin wants Creationism/religion taught in classrooms, and is anti-gay freedom, both of which are jokes internationally. Creationism in schools would begin the destruction of our founder's seperation of church and state, and begin the destruction of America's scientific community. A religious marriage amendment would tear apart lives and families.

6. Palin wants drilling in one of our most beautiful national parks, which is completely unacceptable, ridiculous, and would just hurt the economy.

7. It is a solid fact that the VAST majority of Americans would receive tax breaks from Obama, while McCain will give bigger tax breaks for the rich.

Perhaps it is time you start finding facts rather then fabricating them.

Cheers,

Oh.

It appears Mrs. Palin has flip-flopped on Creationism several times. This confused me. You may disregard the Creationist part of my arguments.

Right... and Obama insulted me by picking a white man as his vp...

Its also insulting that people are still saying Obama is a radical islamic.

It's insulting that people have a belief that is different from yours about someone's religion? The idea is utterly absurd but you certainly are easily offended.

you would think people noticed the world making fun of their current president and wouldn't vote for a third term of bush

The world's oppinion of my vote isn't remotely important to me. I insult the Chinese government on a daily basis and I don't see China overthrowing communism because of a foreign oppinion. Second of all, if you expect people to quit making stupid statements about Obama being Muslim, then you should extend the same courtesy to his opponent, in claiming that it's Bush's third term.

It sad that we have to continually educate people on this:

The ACLU's stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."

Nice article I just read and wanted to share;

The Nation

Opinion

Sarah Palin, Wrong Woman for the Job

The Nation -- John McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as running mate shows how desperate he is to distract attention from the fact that he is a cranky old man with nothing to offer but more of the same. Palin is a blatant pander for the women's vote. He must think we have the collective IQ of a Tampax.

Sure, Palin is cool -- she's pretty and vivacious and athletic, a former beauty queen who runs marathons, hunts , fishes and eats mooseburgers, plus she's got five kids with unusual names like Willow and Track, including a newborn with Down's syndrome. I feel tired just thinking of what her daily life must be like, and if she were my neighbor I would probably like her a lot. It shows how deeply feminism has penetrated American culture that even anti-choice right-wing-christian women are breaking out of the old sugary-submissive pastel-suited stereotype. And if life were a Lifetime movie, Palin would do just fine running the country should McCain keel over. Girls can do anything! and look great doing it!

But seriously. Vice President? After a stint as the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of less than 8000, and barely two years as governor of a state with more grizzly bears than people? She makes obama's resume look as thick as Winston Churchill's.

Here's the reality: Palin is a rightwing-christian anti-choice extremist who opposes abortion for any reason whasoever, except to save the life of the girl or woman. No exception even for rape, incest, or the health of the woman. No exception for a ten-year-old, a woman carrying a fetus with no chance of life, a woman on the edge of suicide-- let alone the woman who is not ready to be a parent, who is escaping domestic violence, who is already stretched to the limit as a single mother. She wants to force over one million women and girls a year to give birth against their will and judgment. She wants to use the magnificent freedom the women's movement has won for her at tremendous cost and struggle--the movement that won her the right to run those marathons and run Alaska -- to take away the freedom of every other woman in the country.

Her selection does not tell us McCain is a "maverick" who is just stringing the christian right along wink-wink . It tells us that he has thrown in his lot with James Dobson, the Family Research Council, the Catholic hierarchy and others for whom criminalizing abortion is the number-one issue. His record of votes against abortion and birth control -- 125 votes out of 130 in his congresssional and Senate career-- apparently wasn't quite enough for them. By choosing Palin, he wins their enthusiastic support.

McCain is gambling that women will vote their gender, and not their interests.

I expect pro-choice women will see through this gambit pretty fast. If not, we really are as dumb as he thinks we are.

American Civil Liberties Union is trying to destroy the constitution? Please cite one case where their position was in violation with the constitution.

I never said they are trying to destory the constitution, I was suggesting that they did more to destroy it like orginizing a bunch of pro-abortion activists to march on court rooms where abortion cases were being heard. In the eyes of the ACLU you the First Amendment protects child molesters, perverts, and fascists, but not Pro-lifers! Quite hypocritical in my opinion

"The ACLU agrees with the Supreme Court’s long-standing interpretation of the Second Amendment [as set forth in the 1939 case, U.S. v. Miller] that the individual’s right to bear arms applies only to the preservation or efficiency of a well-regulated militia. Except for lawful police and military purposes, the possession of weapons by individuals is not constitutionally protected. Therefore, there is no constitutional impediment to the regulation of firearms."

Source

Seems rather unconstitutional to me unless they are Illegals? didn't they sue RI State Police For Arresting Illegals?

What else gets me is Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg's idea 'backed by the ACLU' that we should apply foreign law in interpreting our constitution, you be the judge

In addition, Caesar, I love how I pointed out about a dozen or so amazing things that Senator Obama has done, accomplishments that he's made that McCain will NEVER get close to, and how I showed everyone that compared to many famous presidents, Obama has a ton of experience, and McCain has had quite a bit of bad experience, and ALL you are able to comment on is "lulz obamas a community organizers!!!111"

Real funny, that is.

I think this is a huge insult for women that they'l flock to anyone just because they're a women. Its also insulting that people are still saying Obama is a radical islamic. you would think people noticed the world making fun of their current president and wouldn't vote for a third term of bush

Who has called Obama a radical Islamic?

American Civil Liberties Union is trying to destroy the constitution? Please cite one case where their position was in violation with the constitution.

ACLU Fights Measure To Halt Terrorists’ Funding

Only weeks after the tragedy (911), Congress acted to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting known terrorist organizations. On October 3, 2001, U.S. Rep. Michael Oxley (OH) introduced the “Financial Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001,” seeking to freeze all accounts directly linked to the “financing of terrorism.”

The need for such legislation was deemed so vital to national security that it passed the U.S. House on a vote of 421-1. Almost the entire Congress recognized that this legislation’s passage was imperative. Still, on the day before the vote was scheduled, the ACLU delivered letters of opposition to all members of Congress.

“We urge you to oppose the ‘Financial Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001,’” the letter began. Why? One portion of the bill made it a federal crime to conceal large amounts of “illegally obtained” cash (over $10,000) while traveling. In a desperate and shameful attempt to justify its stance, the ACLU played the race card. The letter argued, “This provision may impact, disproportionately, people of color and immigrants….[because] these groups of people often have a more difficult time getting access to sources of credit and bank accounts and so use cash transactions more frequently than others do.” Indefensible: 10 Ways The ACLU Is Destroying America by Sam Kastensmidt.

There is one and I can easily name NINE more.

SQL, I appreciate your tenacity in support of your candidate, but please don't cut and paste 14 pages. Do not: Copy and paste an entire article or news story, quote only as much as is necessary.

As for Obama's 143 days served in the US Senate....that is called LIMITED EXPERIENCE, not a ton.

Well, you see, he asked for sources. I kindly mentioned that all the information was from wikipedia in my post, but unfortunately he seemed to believe that somehow "didn't count".

Who has called Obama a radical Islamic?

1 in 10 Americans still think he is Muslim.

Are you kidding me?

That was a DISASTER for the constitution!

"The USA Act and the Financial Anti-Terrorism Act are the legislative precursors to the USA PATRIOT Act."

It was piled in with the Patriotic Act and the USA act, two of THE MOST anti-constitutional acts in history.

see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_Anti-Terrorism_Act

Unfortunately, the ACLU lost. The constitution lost. Paranoia won, and Americans began to show they'd rather be "safe" then free.

As Ben Franklin said:

"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither."

There is one and I can easily name NINE more.

Go ahead.

Just in case you didn't know though, you are supposed to be naming ANTI-constitutional stuff, not valiant attempts to save our 4th-8th amendment rights.

Because, you know, your last example was sorta in the latter category.

As for Obama's 143 days served in the US Senate....that is called LIMITED EXPERIENCE, not a ton.

OK, this is getting ridiculous.

I've explained this about 8 times now, and all you can do is say "hahaz community organizers111!!!" and "only 143 days in senatesz1!!".

It's time you start to take this seriously, stop BSing, and seriously address the issue.

Here's the summary of Obama's experience I've collected from the sources I've posted earlier.

If you want the sources for this, SEE MY LAST, OH ABOUT 3 POSTS.

Apparently you missed all of them!

A. Obama has been a US Senator for about 3 years.

B. Obama has been involved in a governmental position for 12 years total.

C. This is more then many famous presidents.(Lincoln, for one)

D. Obama TAUGHT Constitutional Law at The University of Chicago. He most likely knows more about the constitution then possibly anyone in the senate.

E. He graduated with a B.A. from Columbia in 1983, then worked for a year at the Business International Corporation and then at the New York Public Interest Research Group.

F. After graduating, he went to work as a community organizer in Chicago.

G. Following three years of helping some of Chicago's poorest residents recover from a steel mill closing through job training programs, he went to Harvard Law. There, he became the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review.

H. He then began working at a civil rights firm and went on to teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago. He did all of this before his career in politics began.

There. What about McCain?

There. I'm posting that for the last time.(hopefully) Can people actually read it?

I maintain that Obama has MORE experience then McCain in better areas. He's on MORE boards, done MORE for the people, gone to the best law school in America, won a prestigious position there, and taught CONSTITUTIONAL law. He's earned a BA. He's worked with law firms and large businesses. He's worked hand-to-hand with the community. He has had influence on US foreign policies as he is on Senate boards in charge of such. He's traveled the world. He's earned many important positions in the senate.

Cheers,

He is not Dr. Obama, but an instructor at the University. To call him a Prof is misleading and false. However, if that's the criteria, you may from now on refer to me as Professor Aztec.

Do you teach exclusively graduate-level classes at one of the top ten universities in the world?

And you are WRONG about what she believes should be taught in school.

"In an interview with the Anchorage Daily News, Palin states that she doesn't think creationism needed to be part of the curriculum and that she would not push the state Board of Education to add such alternatives to the state's required curriculum."

Well, since that conflicts with her debate answer "Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both." I guess she's nothing but a flip-flopper.

I didn't say I wanted sources, I said nice sources meaning they are biased to Obama
